No shims/spacers
came with my spinner/backplate but it did come with brass adapters for different prop shaft sizes. I used one to fit my DA50 propshaft but still have the other two which i can mike and tell you what the id's are. Take me a couple of days to do this. What size propshaft do you have?

Does anyone know a source for a Yellow Spitfire spinner? The cone on mine developed a small crack, so I only need to cone.

Thanks,

I noticed a hairline crack on the bottom wing starting from the retract block and going to the leading edge so I sanded off the paint to the zpoxy glass layer to check if I had a deep crack or not. It would appear that the flexing of the undercarriage was causing a crack to appear in the paint layer and extend ever so slightly into the balsa skin, nothing to worry about but I will add another layer of glass cloth to that area now that I have the paint sanded off. cheers - ken

Default Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Instructions

Gentlemen, does anyone have a scanned copy of the building instructions for the Spitfire they could send me?
Mine have been mislaid after years of sitting around waiting for me to finish my build.
Thanks

Pretty sure I still have a copy of the instructions Rotherdene. If nobody else jumps in here that has them scanned already I would be glad to take mine and have them scanned for you. Assuming, of course, that I can find them!

Hi Jim,
I took note of Leo Spychalla's gear mod and made my rails bigger, and included a longer rib for the rails to key into, I had to cut a bit of foam, the the rails have been working well, had to explain but these pics of Leo's may help as I dont have the link to his thread.
cheers - ken

Hi All,

I was scanning the warbird for sale ads and found a NIB YA Spitfire Mk XIV and I just recieved it in the mail (biggest box I have ever received in the mail WOW!). As I excitedly went through the inventory of the boxes I became aware the canopy and frame was missing from the kit. I was sad to say the least as these are long out of production, but I remember reading some of the yellow spitfire owners have done the bubble canopy mod to this kit. I am hoping that some of those guys have kept the original parts and might be willing to part with them? I know there are other 1/5 scale spitfires out there like the Pica but not sure if that will fit. Or are there other option out there?? Any help would be appreciated

Mark

Hey Mark. If you don't find an original, the one from the ESM 89" Spitfire is close enough to make it fit. It's not the nicest but you could pretty it up and at least you'd have a canopy until you find or make a better one.

You may want to look at FokkeRC's offerings. He has a really nice 89" MK XIV kit. I bet you could make it work very easily.

Hello gents, It appears that I am a bit late to the party. I have recently aquired a YA Spitfire kit with retracts (for $60.00 US) from a friend. kit #79 to be exact, and it has been sitting in storage since 1992. I am missing the aluminum spinner, and the static spinner/prop but all other parts appear to be there. I am going thru the mods right now and can see that the blocks for the landing gear need to be replaced, as well as making a front spar to go thru the entire center section of the wing. would anyone happen to have the built-up horizontal stab plans they would be willing to email me? Any, and all advice for this build would be appreciated.

Thank you
Tim

I have two different plans for the built up horizontal stab. The first, as seen above in LINK's post, is built in half shells ala Brian Taylor and is designed for the guys that will be hand cutting their own parts. I have a second plan as seen below in which the stab is built in one piece on jig tabs and due to the complexity of some of the parts is really more suitable for those who want to have the parts laser cut. I am happy to provide a CAD laser cutting file with the plan. If you have an interest in either (or both!) just shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will reply with the files attached.
