My P47 work in progress
Here is the P47 I am currently working on, I bought it off a gentleman that had it hanging in his basement for 12 years, I have no idea if it was scratch built or a kit. I am in the process of repainting it and putting new hinges on it. I could use some input to see if it would be ok to cut the engine mount off and and basically epoxy balsa to the firewall and put a new engine mount on it that way. The mount that is built into the plane is to small for the saito 80 FS i want to put on this bird. The original cowl had holes all in it and I want it to have a more scale appearance. Any suggestions as to how and if I could go about cutting the mount off would be appreciated. I am in the final touches of painting and plan on doing it in the "Sweet Louise" scheme.

Yup the wing is a foam core...so i guess it is a Jemco...my question is do you all see any problems with cutting that motor mount off and epoxying balsa to the firewall and putting an engin mount on that? Also would a saito 80 FS be to much engine?

Why would you epoxy balsa to the front of the fuse? A plywwod firewall is in order. I would start with a 1/8" piece to fully cover the front of the fuse, then a 1/4" piece just big enough to mount the engine mount on. If the kit is a Jemco, you better weigh it before you fly, as they tend to build real heavy in my expreience.

make sure you make a hatch to have access to your fuel tank. From the pics it looks like the tank is meant to be slid through the front end, and it dosnt look like there is an area in back to slide it out. I know it sounds like common sense but it can easily be forgotten, then remembered after you have glued your fuel tank inside the firewall.
