RE: KMP P-51B "BALD EAGLE"
Hi All,
Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the shape of this brand new P51 is not spot on. Now, I realise that the paint isn't even dry yet, but what I see in the only view that shows the front view( on the web site) is that the canopy is too tall where it separates from the windscreen. Also, the depth of the fuse under the windshield is too deep. ( between the wing and the canopy.)
I know there are all sorts of reasons for not being so picky, and many will say" so what" but I reason that (if I am correct ) there may be some time to correct these minor problems. The fuse height is maybe, too difficult and not so important, but it wouldn't take much to make a better canopy.( Otherwise, a Brian Taylor canopy would probably do as it is very close to the right size. ( that is if you can still get a B Taylor Canopy ?! ))
I love the P51 , especially the D, and it frustrates me that kit makers can make mistakes with basic things ( such as canopy shapes ) and spoil otherwise excellent efforts with this plane.
I am impressed with this model otherwise . I think the choice of prototype is excellent, although it's a shame modern technology can't come up with a better representation of natural aluminium than we have so far.
I still say well done KMP and I will save some $$$ for one of these myself.
Cheers,
Merlin Man.

I was thinking the turtle deck looked a bit off, but I think it may just be the camera angle. Either way its nice to see a decent birdcage mustang.

The turtle deck is missing its distinctive "hump" yes, there is some there, but the real thing had a bit more to it. Also, by the look, the wings on the B are D wings.
Never the less the thread will soon by visited by folks claiming that its "just an ARF" "close enough" and sooner or later someone will be claiming it was very well researched, and used 3-view from some Chinese "historian" versus US government sources, or other that have actual former layouts and factory drawings.
As I sad for this price you can get a larger plane from Top Flite, that due to the way it is built can be made into a much more scale airplane.
The market is flooded with P-51D's... too many of them in fact.

More P-51's yes! But which one is the most scale? I like this size. But this one looks like it drank to much fuel, a little bloted. Still stuck with a scratch build Brian Taylor.
Maybe if I saw one in person it would look better.

We'll have them on display at the Chicago IHOBBY show. Hobby shops will have them prior to the show in October. We are expecting them to arrive late August or very early September.

RE: KMP P-51B "BALD EAGLE"
Just recieved my Bald Eagle and retracts. Does anyone know where I can get a more scale like tail wheel assembly for it. Really don't like the wire one hanging off the back.
Thanks,
Bill

RE: KMP P-51B "BALD EAGLE"
I just purchased the KMP P-51B in primer. I will probably do it in Don Gentiles colors. I would like to have done Bud Andersons "Old Crow" but I don't want to tackle the Malcom hood. Someone asked about the tail wheel and I have had good luck with the Yellow Aircraft P-40 tail wheel. They are fairly universal and can be dressed up a bit. I plan on using a Saito 180 for power and will probably use a set of Robart retracts that I have. Hasn't anyone built one yet?

COME ON GUY'S !! These are very good looking models. If we don't build from scratch then we must do with what we have.Granted the company that comes up with the most scale model gets the prize. When I look at these planes[sorry] I don't look too harshly at the exact scale but at the over all plane and I become a kid again watching these war birds fly over my house back in the 40 's[Chicago].Yes I wish ,for the prices we have to pay, I think the planes should be as close to scale as possible, but, then a lot of flyers probably could not fly a "Scale" plane.
I think these KMP planes look very good[I prefer the TFP51's and H9 P47] but if I was going to buy a new plane I would consider these planes.Just my 2 cents.Tom

Re-reading what I said about this some time ago and feel that I didn't make it clear enough that these comments/criticisms were levelled at the P51- D model and not the B (which is actually the subject of the thread ) I really do not have any issues with the B model.
Just my opinion for what it is worth.
Cheers,
Merlin Man.

RE: KMP P-51B
Evil Merlin, the fact that you are interested in getting one of these does say a lot for the model. I like it as well but decided to go with the Ki84 Frank. So far I find it difficult to fault that ones scale outline; sorry for going a bit of topic but what do you think of the Frank ? It sure is a very interesting aircraft.

RE: KMP P-51B
I like the Frank. It has decent outlines and looks the part. Paint is a bit TOO new on it... but thats easy enough to fix.
I'm not enough of a Japanese aircraft student to be able to tell much more.
But all in all, if I were to pick two ESM birds, it would be the Ki84 and the P-51B

RE: KMP P-51B
Hmmmm. If you had an HE-111(like from Graupner) Id be interested. Or an AW ME-262. Yeah I know...not same price range but something could be worked out
As far as glow motors, well, I have been building a lot of my planes with electrics as of late. My ESM Stuka will be electric so I dont need a glow motor for that. I have a CMP Corsair(still in box) that I might try and fit my turnigy 50cc gas motor into....or maybe sell the CMP F4U for an ESM FW-190(yes I know not exactly scale...but better then the CMP Corsair scalewise). I also have an HM Performance Corsair. My point being I really dont need any kits, but any warbird arfs you might have.....maybe Ill consider. I already have the ESM ME-110 and several 90mm edf jets to build also.
Im not really a kit builder so plans and boxes of wood dont do me much good. I have a BalsaUSA DR1 that needs to be built anyhow(yuck hate stick building and covering).
Im not really sure what else Id be looking for. I have a lot of electric motors lying around waiting to be put in planes(big and small), boxes of servos, etc.
