Default Kyosho Focke Wulf 50 size ARF Build Thread

I just picked up the new Kyosho Folke Wulf ARF. I am guessing the 50 refers to size? I have not seen any such Folkewulf 50 airplane. I am thinking it is the FW 190??

Anyway I am an OS fan and debating on using an OS 81FSa I have or buying a 56FSa. There is about a 4.7 oz weight difference. That doesn't seem like much difference to me. Has anyone got experience with this plane of the Kyosho 40-50 size warbird ARF's?? This plane has a 55.9" wingspan

Itis, indeed. a FW 190. It's new and just out on the market, so I have only seen a couple of comments on it.

On a 40 sized plane 4.7 oz can be significant. On a 40 (or 50) sized warbird I would think the OS 81 would be better fit.

Very nice video, and it looks like that Saito .82 works just fine to me. Not a big fan of the pilot figure, but hey, that's just me

Can someone confirm the cowl and canopy paint matches the covering? I've seen some photos online, looks like it doesn't match very well.

the cowl is not a very good match, the grey has a greenish tint to it. There are two greys on the fuse. It should be really easy to paint the grey portion of the cowl if you are worried about it!!

Great looking video, I'm just getting into digital video so I've got a question about what you're shooting with and what resolution, etc you're using to send to You Tube. These are good looking videos and I'd like to figure out how to do the same...or at least try :-)

Take care,
Greg

i wish mine didn't need any lead, sc 52 four stroke up front and an extra 3 1/2 oz of lead in the tail to balance it, or is the c of g wrong, balanced it 110mm from the leading edge with the plane inverted[]

I ordered mine the other day. Looking at either a OS 55AX or an Evolution 61. Any ideas on the better engine to use? I would like to get a 72 or 82 4 stroke but don't really want that much money in a 40 size plane.

What did you end up using on your Focke Wulf 50? I tried a OS 46 and it flew o.k. but being wide open all the time, the engine was getting very hot and leaning out into many dead sticks. I have a Saito 72 that turns a 13x6 prop and I'm thinking that will be good.

What engine did you end up liking with this plane? I tried an OS 46ax and it flew fine except the engine was maxed out all of the time. I'm thinking of a SAITO 72 with a 13x6 prop for more power.

I'm running a Magnum .70FS in my similar sized VQ FW 190 and it is plenty powerful for the plane. Your Saito 72 = No problem I would guess.

I have a Evolution .46NX and I'm putting on a Bisson .46 Pitts muffler on it... and I have a 10x7 3 bladed Master Airscrew prop. If you guys are haveing issues with the lack of power from your O.S. I'd think about experimentation with your prop. I had a PTS P-51 and I put this type of prop on it and that little bird became a "New Monster"... it wasn't that same little "Trainer" that some claimed it to be. My approches were much faster due to the Evolution PTS Prop acts like a air break.

With Mechanical Retracts, I persnally like to keep my planes as light as possible due to the many different grass fields I use. I've seen mechanical retracts collapse on a rough landing... especially when the plane was a little on the heavy side.

I'm running a .46 also, due to I'm puting a full cockpit in it... adding the guns and going off with the detail. I'm going to look for a "Ace" Heart Sticker or Decal for it's side emblem. I have the Swa Decals from a old CMP FW that I trashed 3 years ago... It came in two sizes. I have a 1/72 model of the same Fock Wulf... the Rank is wrong, it is horizontal.

It's Joseph Prillers 1943 Focke Wulf.

For an ARF, It's still a good looking plane.

Sazfone, I built one for a customer with a Saito 72 w/turbo header and 90 degree fitting. It is a rocket. I suppose with a YS 110 like some have done, the term rocket is out the window. The 72 and turbo header setup fits really well in the cowl, uses little fuel, and is just about right for a higher performance version on this ARF. I also have a friend that has a OS56a and it also flies pretty fast. Not as fast as the 72 of course but still a lot faster than scale. Below are pics of the 190 with the Saito 72.

Great engineering, mind if I copy it? I have a new, stock SAITO 72 so I guess I'll have to look into the turbo header. By the way, what hardware did you you use to get the exhaust even down by the glow? That is way better than blasting nitro goo out the side.
Thanks,
Sazfone

RC Specialties Turbo header and 90 degree elbow. If you notice in the picture of the motor running, there is a slight relief slot in the cowling because the 90 fitting just rubbed against it. They told me at RC Specialties that I could of just ground some of the elbow down. He said there is plenty of meat to it. It did barely touch. The turbo header really makes the motor run and idle sweet. I highly recommend it. I also bought one for my Saito 62 because I was so impressed.

Has anyone tried to match the colors on the plane for paint? If anyone has let me know what you used... spray can or airbrush. I want to match the dark gray and light blue for the cowl.

Thanks.

I have a 1/72 model of the same Focke Wulf... the Rank is wrong, it is horizontal.

I was wrong with that statement. I found the plane profile with the bar up. His early FW-190 had it like the stock Kyosho photo, but it's still a little off from historical fact. It's III/JG 26 Kommandeur Hptm. Josef 'Pips' Prillers plane Fw190A3.

Maj.Josef Priller, France 1943 Fw190A-5

Can you guys tell me if the insignia's are a sticker, ultra or is it printed? I would like to get the rank bar and crosses a little more accurate.

Do the gear doors close all of the way? If not, have you had any flight problems. Mine don't close all of the way and I'm thinking about going without.

Regarding your FW 50 with inverted Saito 72. I noticed you didn't leave an access hole in the cowl for the glow plug and I see you have an onboard glow. What do you do if you have a Hydro-lock, short of removing the cowl at the field?
