Hi guys. steve here from OZ. the vdieo will be out in a couple of weeks. we are including the 300 build photos plus the trial flights. i will send it to micheal to place on the web. hope you like the model. she is something incredible 20 feet off the ground at full noise 50 feet in front of you. the video really does her no justice. i am hopeful of getting her to Top Gun next year. thanks for the kind words.

regards
steve

Have seen 4 or 5 1/6 B-17's fly in the UK and they fly very very well. Most of them using 4 x Zenoah 38's or 45's.

How about 2 of these though?? From Dragon.

Good luck

Hey guys,

Sorry I've been so quiet on this thing. I haven't had my priorities straight. I've been really busy with stuff like Kids, Wife, Work, more work, and some more work after that. I've decided to start on the next wing. The first thing I've had to do is re-set the left wing spars. This was really easy. A little sanding and they fit right in.

Next I started placing the wing ribs according to the plans and glued the spars into place.....

God I hate webbing!!! As you can see in these pictures, it took a lot of time and a lot of bear, but we got the webbing done on the main spar and the secondary spar. Thank you Mike K. for only designing the webbing on one side of the spar!

As of tonight, I've got the leading top edge of the wing sheeted. I took my time and I think the sheeting is coming out really nice. I'm starting to get excited about putting both wing halves together!

Hi PJ,

Been following your build, great, I want one!!!!

Yeah you got to do her in a natural metal finish, she would look so good glinting away in the sky,my own choice would be the Lesonal Platinum which I used on my P38 with great results.

Her is a shot I managed to get at Duxford with my 38 and the Liberty Bell in the back ground!!!!

Cheers Graham.

Hi Pj,

Any more updates!!!pics of your build????
This might interest you, I have just acquired allot of the scale parts and molds from the Memphis Belle Film,a few boxes of molds, canopys, 4 part spun cowls and all the Silicone molds for all the fine detailing, radio mast and so on.Even got all the scale intake molds for the wings.

Here are some pics, it shows you how detailed the molds are, I do love this Turbo.
I will be sorting it all out,I should be able to re use the silicone molds, not bad for 20 years old??? and yes it's all 1/6 scale, I will get some more pics up.

Cheers Graham.

You just made my day!!!! Please tell me that you will punch a mold of those inlets!!??!! I have everything else, but you have no clue how much I did not want to do those from scratch. You have brought light to a gloomy "air inlet" day!!!! Let me know how much....

I will post some pictures of my progress in a day or so. I'm getting ready to pop the other wing and turn it upside down....

Yeeeehaw!

I thought I was building a beast with a 1/4 scale 121.5" wingspan F4U-7 Corsair from Don Smith's plans. You've almost got 85" on me at 207" I'm having to build mine in my garage shop because if I built in my shop in the basement I'd never be able to get it out. Where are you building this MONSTER?????? I just started watching your build but I'm impressed with your workmanship. Here's mine! I just got the gear and am almost finished installing it. I got it from Darrell at Seirra and he custom made them. It took over a year to get them but the wait was worth it. Where are you getting your retracts?

lol Jeff,

Do you ever think of anything else???/God Bless you man!

Gibbs,

The corsair looks awesome! Yeah Darrell makes some nice stuff. Please keep us in the loop on that bird! I'm building mine in my walk out basement. It is the only way I can. The temp. here in KY is down to 25 today, so anything outside is....well, you know.

Okay, well I have the top of the 2nd wing sheeted and I'm getting ready to pop it off the table. I'll tell you, I really like the new way I'm sheeting. It makes the plane look so much nicer. Its funny how many more things I learn as I go on. Here is where the second wing is....and yes, as soon as it is nice outside I will haul everything out and take a pic of the plane together!

Love ya'll!!

PJ

They actually build up quickly PJ. Simply make a series of boxes from 1/8" balsa, shape & fill; RCSB - DS describes it thoroughly.
As indicated, I still have some minor shaping and fill to do, but their basically there.
Also, don't forget those nacelle vents.

Doug Smith and I intend to tear-up the S. Florida warbird circuit once I finish. He'll be resurrecting his.

Doing well, Thanks.
My goal is to have this 17' project completed for Bomber Field 09' in September. If all goes well, I should meet that deadline. I've got the majority of construction completed. Detailing issues remain before glassing such as cutting gun ports, windows, functional hatchs, doors, rotating turrets, etc.
Target weight is 54.5 lbs. Utilizing new Zenoah G-23's, Robart gear, Glennis wheels. Still undecided on the scheme;however, it will definitely be pre-44' - love olive drab bombers!

Watching your thread closely. Keep up the impressive work...

NICK
