Well guys I talked to Steve Forrest tonight and he said that Larry Wells and he had backed out of the Bomber feild trip !! Thay are afraid of the hotels not honoring their reservations and no gas or diesel in the stations !! I was suppose to room with Steve but told him not to hold the rooms !! Steve said thay are going to Denver next weekend for Warbirds over the Rockies !!
I may just go to Warbirds over Montgomery next weekend !! since I haven't a room now.

How are the gasoline supplies in the area of Bomber Field?

Locally, the state highway information signs, the electronic ones, are telling people in the DFW to not drive to Houston or Beautmont, due to very limited fuel supplies in said areas. I know Bomber Field is a good bit west of Houston, but people would like to be sure the can fuel up down there, if they come..

It is not bad on the outskirts of Houston. I live in Katy and it is fairly easy to find gas without waiting in line. The main reason it is hard to find intown is there are many stores and stations without power. Just fill up before you get close to Houston area and there should be no problem. They just dispatched 1000 light and power trucks today that came from around the country and you see them all over working around the clock. It should be ok by Friday as power is spotty all around. Thomas, I plan to fill up in Waco and then again in Hern if possible. I'm also carrying a spare 5 gallon can of gasoline.

Dale et al....

A lot of places outside of Houston are already getting power back... Monaville has power, Hempstead has power, Bryan/COLLEGE STATION has power, Hearne has power...

Most places in and around Monaville have power and gas...

Hey Guys ,

I have been reading about you wondering if these hotels are going to HONOR you reservations and I AM SHOCKED at how HEARTLESS you sound . Have you ever been through one of these huricanes and have no place to go , lost a house , had to live in a hotel. Lose everything you have. Well i have and I cant believe you would even think of worring if the hotel is going keep you reservation. Are you wanting familys to have no place to stay. I think it would at least be good to check to see if where you are staying has people that have been forced to evacuate by our citys and cant return. Lets think about it guys

P-51 flyr:

I've been keeping up with all of these posts, and I truly believe that no one here is in anyway heartless. Nor did I see that inferred in any post. Many of us, including myself, do understand what it's like to lose a home to a disaster. Been there, done that, and have the family scars to show for it. I'm very sorry that you're going through a rough time now, and as one modeler to another, wish you and your family the very best.

Regardless, it is a fair question to ask about hotel accomodations, and to have concerns about it. We really do want to get to this event, and add our $$ to the local economy. Things sound like a go - so I'm expecting to make the drive over to Monaville. If the roads out of Beaumont improve, I hope you can make it too.

Bomber Field has power and is dry. Yesterday BB said Nick called to report it was exceptionally dry.
Our West side got wind from North and less rain than East side of town 65 miles away.

If you had reservations, call to confirm availability. There are plenty of motel and hotel rooms West
on I-10 between Houston, Brookshire, Sealy, and North to Hempstead and Prairie View...all less than
a twenty minute drive from the North End of Bomber Field's runway.

See you guys beginning tomorrow morning.

On several occasions, the September Bomber Field event has occur right after a calamity. The biggest one, of course, was the 2001 gathering which was just 3 days after the NYC bombings. In each case, for me at least, it's been mentally therapeutic to "get away" and enjoy something other than bad news. I've wondered if others have felt the same too.

You are right. I was there at bomber after 911. We have some Houston friends in town. He has been working nonstop clearing his yard and helping clear the street. Fortunately no damage to his house. He came to Austin yesterday just to get away from it all for awhile.
One thing I remember that day at bomber field was hearing then watching from the balconey a trio of apache helicopters flying by. Was glad they are on our side.
Even though I dont make it every year, I look forward to Bomber Field.

I'm planning to come up for the day on Sunday, but I usually come for Saturday when there is alot of flying going on. Is it the same on Sunday or are most people packing up and heading home by then?

Thanks!

Flying begins tomorrow morning at 9 am continuing to 4 pm. Saturday we kick off
at 9 am and continue until awards are given at 5:30 pm. Order of events changed
last year. Sunday we fly from 9 am until 2:00 pm when the raffle drawing occurs.

Come on down, over, or up for a GREAT weekend of flying and spectating. Its just
the distraction for what's been bothering you lately...IKE.
