RE: Meister Scale FW 190A "Project Achtung!"
The F model was the Fw 190's were the dedicated ground attack version of the 190. The F models were almost always fitted with center line and wing mounted bomb racks. Additional armor was fitted to the bottom of the fuse and wing.
Externally there was no noticable difference between the F8 and the A8 with the exception of the bomb racks, and if you knew were to look, the changes in the armor plating.
The F8 was based on the A8 model, fitted with two MG 151/20mm cannons in the wings (at the root) and two MG 131 machine guns on the fuse, above the engine. This is usually the easiest and fastest way to identify F8 vs. A8
The cowl was so bulky in the front due to the armour plating of the nose cowl, which protected the oil resevior, called the oil ring which itself was part of cowling.
Let me get my prints of the 3 views for the F8 and those of the A8 and I will send them to you...
The great news is, if you are doing a F8 model, that just so happens to be the same plane that NASM has (its White 7). The one at NASM started life as an A7 (built in late 1943). The original Wk. No, was 640069, and after the rebuilt it was renumbed to 931884. Apparently it got hit in the wing and was sent to rebuild where it got a new wing, bomb racks and the up-armor to the bottom of the cockpit.

RE: Meister Scale FW 190A "Project Achtung!"
Doesn't seem like I'v gotten much done...but I have been able to put a little designer touch into the FW. Since i didnt' really like the way the elevators where going to be built..i descided just to make my own..just grabbed some wood...a ruler, calculator, and knife..and whala. Much betta! Obviously some balsa blocks must be installed and shapped..but other than that..yall can see what i'm going for. For some reason..the camera disorted the horizontal stab a bit..I freaked out when i noticed it..but the ribs are 90 degrees to that lower spar..double checked. Reason i have only sheeted one side is because i'm trying to descided where to put the servos. Possibly thinking maybe in the horizontal stab...yet its not thick enough to put the servo upright..it must go in sideways. Even if i make a hatch..if i ever have to pull the servo out..there's no gettin to it! So i dunno...
Evil Merlin-by the way..that Red 2 on the bottom image may be the hot ticket! Spinner may be a pain in the arse but i can manage.

Bubs be VERY careful mounting anything in the tail of the Fw 190. That is going to majorly impact the amount of weight you are going to have to add to the nose if you are not careful. You really want to have as much of your radio stuff and servos as far forward as you can get them.
The short nose of the Fw 190 A/F/G's can be the planes undoing if not careful.
Let me see if I can find anything else on Red 2 for you.

Your absolutly correct Evil Merlin...i just really didn't want to run a stinkin 6' control rod through the plane...Mentioning things in the rear of the a/c..this is what about to come..i'm having to retrofit the sierra gear into the FW...beginning with the tail gear. The pictures should illustrate what i'm trying to accomplish.

Gods, that Sierra gear is beautiful.
I wish I could afford a set! I need to sell off some of the planes I'll never get to build.
I have Dino's Fw 190 D9 version of what you are building, but until I get retracts for it, I'm sitting on it.
The good news is, the way you are mounting the tail wheel is kinda scale.

yeah, the sierra gear is by far a piece of art..which is why the price tag is what it is. The mains are even better! Yeah the gear location to go into the tail seems to be pretty scale. From the looks of some pictures i have, it seems there is even an inspection panel on the vertical fin..which is really nice for me...i'd hate to mount that piston in there with no way to get to it!!!!

Good thread.
I think I've got some photos of the control surfaces of "White !" I think that's right, Merlin? the 190A being restored down at Kissimmee. I'll look around and see if I can find them to post, and Merlin will be able to identify the model specifically.

Yep, you got it Bubs, make sure you put that inspection panel in there, its great. Use a tiny paino style hinge and a rare earth magnet.
There is a tonne of stuff you can easily do to make it scale as can be...
If you need AnYTHING for the Fw 190 (details etc), just let me know.

Yep, its White 1 down in Kissimini, FL. White 1 is a F8 as well. W. Nr 931 862, which is a true F8, built as an F8, in June of 1944. It was eventually shot down by a British P-51, but White 1 took the P-51 and its pilot down.
When done, it should be the only flying Fw 190 F8 flying on the original BMW 801 engine!

Supposed to be three pics. That's what I uploaded, anyhow, and it said they'd been uploaded successfully. I have no idea why it posted only one "supersized" image...

Ok, that tail is not White 1. That tail belongs to a Fw 190 A0-A2/A3. Its easy to tell by the antenna lead on the top of the vertical stab.
If its being done by the White 1 Society, its probably Fw 190 A-3 "Black 3" Werk Nr. 0132219. This one was actually lost due to a fuel shortage and crashed on landing.

It is being done by the White 1 Society. I was down there in the spring of '07 just before they moved from the strip mall back to the airfield. If I remember correctly, didn't they agree to restore one guess that would be "Black 3? to static display condition for the Norweigen govn't in exchange for White 1? Great bunch of guys, it was hard to get photos because the building was long and narrow, but they moved and uncovered stuff,,like the engine, so I could get shots of engine/mounts, cockpit armor. Things like that.

Well..hardly anything got done on the FW over the weekeend. I'v been spending many hours in the shop building, that i descided i'd take the weekend for the significant other and I spend together. Not to mention, she's the one who bought the Kit from Dino for me at my graduation party in May...so i suppose i realy can't complain. How many of you all can say that! I did get the bulkhead for the tail gear all made...nothing is permantly installed just yet, figured i'd post some pics to see if i have it in the correct location. Tell me what u guys think..(especially u merlin!)

Welp, sorry for the delay in photos..been cutin and gridin so much..guess the sawdust got to me! Anyways, achieved alot over the weekend and the beginning of the week. The goal is to have the gear installed in the wings and prepare the top of the wing for sheeting...leaving the bottom unsheeted for now to build the gear well area and also begin the design process for the split flap install. Everything seems to be strait and true...no known twist or bows in the wings. Here ya go!
