RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
Tonight I cut the front off of the fuse. Used the part I cut off as a template to make a new firewall. Tacked it in place with some CA and poured some 30 min. epoxy around it with some glass cloth for strength. Man, what a mess.

I am the worst about control throws
I set my planes up for max throws on all surfaces and the Dual rate at about half
then I fly the plane and adjust my throws to achieve the effect I want
Wish I could be more helpful but I never have even looked a the recommended throws on any plane

you could measure them and let me know what they are. Might be a good place to start.
Thanks,
Doug

Finished up the rudder framing. It still needs to be sanded to an airfoil shape but first I need to sheet and install the trailing edge on the fin.
I used blue tape as a hinge and glued the sheeting together with Titebond. Stacked the sheets with waxed paper and use a piece of plywood to hold the flat while the glue drys.

I have struggles long and hard on a method of hinging the elevators to the stab. I started by using hardwood dowels as hard points on the TE of the stab and epoxied them in place. Worked great and was a no brainer.
I then decided to cut pockets out in the elevators and insert some hardwood blocks to accept the hinge points. I used Gorilla Glue on the blocks. Big mistake. The stuff started expanding and now I have glue oozing all over the place and clogging up the holes for the hinges.
I ended up sticking pieces of piano wire in the hinge holes so I know where to drill them out later.
Last time I try using this method.

OK, I know I'm late on this one but I just picked up the same kit at the AMA Expo. I amkeenly interested on how your builds ended up. Don't keep us in suspense any longer. As you stated no instructions just prints. What are you useing as an epoxy/putty/primer before painting?
