FYI,
You don't need the,"mixer" to use hysol. Just mix it 50/50 like you would any other epoxy and you'll be fine.

Got the 1st rib reinstalled, now trying to get the outer rib back into place...
Very slow and tedious getting it to sit perfectly where is was, didn't realize how tight the top main spar was to the ribs
Will send pix as soon as I get it set in place

Great hearing about the progress regardless of the slow progression. Those temps are frightening, don't keel over in the garage. Stay hydrated my friend. Chic

Hey guys,
Work progresses slowly on the wing, found that the inner most rib that holds the wing tube broke loose, got the 2nd rib re-glued and am slowly getting the outer rib glued back into place, going to be a mild 110 here today so NO work on the wing

Larry

Mild 110 degrees, Larry you ought to have a beautiful tan, like mine, by now with all that heat. Wow - when you moving back to New York. Ha, Ha, just kidding. Smile. Chic

Chic,
If I was back on the east coast the tan would be NO problem, at 110 you don't tan you just look like a well done charred steak

Chic,
I try NOT to go outside once the temp hits 105+
Here are a couple of shots of the G10 repair I'm working on, I will make a 2nd one for the 2nd wing tube rib.

Larry, thanks much. Got luck with the wind, heat, and rain. Larry, I know that Shirley has several boyfriends, I tell her often - now that I am retired and working "ONLY" in my shop, that whenever she needs anything done around the house, call one of your boyfriends. Her boyfriends include a plumber, a handy man, a landscaper, and a painter. She calls and of course, I have to pay. The landscaper, is almost as bad as the plumber, every time I see either of them, it costs me $50. Still plugging at finishing the Avenger. Chic

Chic,
LOL, as long as you have time to be in the shop it's cheap money or of course you could get a riding lawnmower and read a model magazine while the mower does the work

Smile - can you imagine what the yard would look like while riding that mower. I ride one of those zero turn radius mowers at our flying field. Gotta keep the fields grass cut, the heck with the front/back yards. Her boyfriends can take care of that. Ha, Ha. Chic

Bottom of the wings are now all white. Let it all sit for a few days to dry and harden and then application of the wing/stab/elevator camo. Long time coming. Happy Father's Day to all the Avenger watchers and builders. Chic

Thanks Bob and Noah. However, Guys. I seriously need some weathering advice. This Avenger is so "WHITE" - that I have to wear sunglasses when I am in the shop. It needs to be dirtied up really bad. Any suggestions on a dirty wash or something I can apply. Like a drop of black in 10 drops of thinner and sprayed on?????????? Help guys. This would apply to the fuse and bottom of the wings and stab/elevators. Chic

Chic,

consider artists chalk, black or dark grey, ground into powder. get a rag and blot it in the powder, then use the rag to wipe the wings and fuse from front to back, leading edge to training edge... some of the "grime" should accumulate in the recesses and the panel lines/gaps.

If not satisfied, wipe away with damp cloth. If satisfied, cover with clear coat! Locks it into place.

you might want to experiment first on a panel.

full disclosure... I have never tried it, but I saw the results of this technique on several planes over the years... and they looked great.

the alternative is to airbrush on streaks of grey.. and hope it looks great the first time!

good luck!

Thanks Noah, will use the inside of the landing gear doors to play with the chalk/powder technique. Will certainly use the airbrush to spray steaks on the bottom of the wings and fuse. However, my main concern is with the sides of the fuse/fin/rudder. I have seen on Ytube where a wash is sort of sprayed on the top of the fuse and let dribble down the sides with a bit of a wipe in the end. Hummmmm?????

So far, I have taken a fine Scotch Brite pad and scuffed everything to get the sheen off the paint even though I used a Satin catalyst. Chic
