It would be kool but Larry, I don't have $750 for that TBM ride. I am sending Shirley and daughter on a 14 day trip to the "Med" in a week. I am going to be broke for a loooooong time. Then you asked me to take her credit cards away so I can CG the Avenger in "Her" house, now you want me to spend money on an airplane ride in a TBM which isn't the TBF that I am building. Do you want me beat half to death by two crazed women? I thought we were "Bros". Ha, Ha, Ha. Temps are coming down but rain is forecasted all week. CG????? I can't win for trying. Chic

Chic,
Problem solved, she'll be gone for 14 days, what's the problem? LOL
Get Ranger to come help you, buy him a steak at Ruth Chris for his trouble and Shirley will be none the wiser, just trying to help a Bro out!!!!!
If I could convince the wife I'd do it in a heartbeat but alas she's thinking of taking the entire family to Italy next year, guess I'll have to get another part time job
Turns out there is another Planes of Fame Museum here in AZ, only 3 hours away but even that will be a tough sell as I just spent 2 days in the hospital and she now has me on an extremely short leash (about 6")
But at least the rivets progress on the Trojan wing, should be ready to start gluing by Tuesday
P.S. If you balance in the house DO NOT take pix
Stay well brother

Ha, Ha - Say what Larry - buy Ranger a steak, he is on the west coast. Smile. I'll buy myself a steak at my favorite house, Ruth Chris, for sure. My Brother, you are killing me, I can't stop laughing. I know the first lady can not be that hard on you. Heck, you are working 5 jobs, giving her all your money, working outside in the heat. She is tougher than Bootcamp Training Instructors. Smile. Chic

Took a while finding the file but here it is. The rescued TBF/M that the caretaker let me have at for some pix. I mentioned a morse code keyer and found them. The first one is just to the right of the radio/bombardier panel. to the right of the trigger in the turret.
Interesting to note that the aux air slot fwd of the ailerons were attached to a hinge strip. Was it adjustable. The task was to increase aileron efficiency at low airspeed high angle of attack associated with landing.

Hey Ray, very Interesting Set of Photos. Especially the Hinged Strip in front of the Mailbox Slot, Is It "Adjustable" - to widen or narrow that slot. Besides shooting the turret gun, we now know the gunner might also need to be qualified in Morse Code. Thanks Ray

I've other pix if interested. Latest pictures on the Deland NAS museum show remarkable progress. This museum got this project from other museums who gave up on it. Looking at the old bird, I wondered if this short staffed crew could manage. Looks good.
The engine is an old worn slam out issue to replace the corroded one that couldn't pass a compression test for sure.
We've a TBM in the Yorktown and , if I can ever remember, to check on those slots and piano hinge and confirm. I'd do it Thursday but the storm has preempted everything. City and surrounds are closed down tight.

I should say that Steve Keesey and Boyd Maser have my old F7F... and my old landing gear, naturally (maybe even some extra mains or an extra nose gear).
If they're not using them (i.e. have no plans to use them again), you should reach out to Maser.
Maybe Boyd will see this message if he still checks in on this thread now and then.

An update on TBF wing details. The Yorktown re-opened Tues and I got these pix shortly afterward of the "mail slot"detail forward of the ailerons.
There was no piano hinge on the Yorktowns wing slot. I have no explanation except the Deland TBF had been passed down through a few earlier entities that, for what ever reason, were unable to complete the resurrection. Maybe an early attempt at some modification?
Anyway , this TBF came to Yorktown some time ago. I remember it sitting on the dirt parking at Charleston's FBO waiting for a lift. The rear turret was removed and the ASW gear and crew member in it's place. In time, a turret
became available but the Yorktown's bird only has the glass bubble and makeshift gun barrel.
Interesting to see the larger air intake vs. the narrow upper slot. A neat way to capture and accelerate the airflow at low speed high angle of attack applications. Kept the air sticky and adhering to the wing surface to make the aileron work better.
