Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build
#1801
Condolences to his family and friends. I am stunned as only a fortnight ago he replied to my thread regarding his Tracker design. What a pity
Another great designer departs.

I am speechless, I am sitting here shaking my head saying "who are they talking about". Only flew once with Charlie but sat and talked with him a number of times especially at WarBirds Over Delaware. He made it to retirement and began work on the Tracker which he longed to do. Yes, he will be greatly missed. I will certainly campaign his Avenger in his honor. Got to get to work. Much thought and prayers to his family. Chic

RIP Charlie,
Just in shock over the news Charlie really embodied the brotherhood of RC Modelers and was never too busy to help with a question or a problem...
The community has truely lost one of the great ones but I am sure his legacy will be preserved withhe many Avengers and Skyraiders taking to the skies.
Rest well my friend, you will be truely missed

Having just found out about Charlie's passing two days ago I am still in shock. I am at a loss for words really. Yes he was way too young. I thank him for designing the Avenger and providing me with the opportunity to honor my Grandfather. Charlie was following my build thread and never failed to email with advice. He told me early on he enjoyed hearing about people's relation to these aircraft. He will definitely be missed.

Chic,
Nice work, it looks like the center section leading edge is a bit forward of the outer wing panel. I only mention it because it happened to us...let me know if it's the case and how you're going to fix it.

OK guys, I have resurfaced with a plan and work in hand. Our great friend from the north really inspired me to really work the scale aspect of this great airframe. So I buried myself in the books and realized I could make the mailbox wing slots more scale like by moving them to a more scale location. So after some measuring on my 1/32 plastic model, I relocated only the bottom portion of the slot closer to and into the leading edge. I'll add support to the cut into the leading edge with some carbon fiber matt. I used a piece of a smaller size leading edge stock to simulate the bottom leading edge of the slot. You see cardboard stock that sits on a groove cut into the L/E stock that when sized will curve into the top surface sheeting as the picture shows. The cardboard will be replaced by 1/32 ply. Looks rather scale, I think Charlie would be pleased. What do you think? Chic

Thanks, I know Charlie drew the airframe up as a sport scale but I want to do some competing with this model so I thought a few extra touches would not hurt. Boyd, coming from you, knowing your building skills, I'm further motivated to do a bit more. Again, thanks. Chic

Hey guys, I just wanted to introduce you to two of my little friends. The one on the right fills well, is dull green in color, and sands well but with a slight bit of effort. The one on the left is just absolutely beautiful. I use it all the time for almost everything. It is red in color, fills well and sands like a feather. Me........ make Peter jealous, I can hear him laughing out loud. Well, maybe just a little. Smile. Both mailbox slots are freshly cut into the wing panels. Will finish the slots tomorrow. Chic
