Notice the one top vent of the TBF-1B cowl versus the two (top/bottom) cowl vents of the TBM-3 Avenger. Thanks again Brett. Chic

Alert - Alert. I screwed up somewhere. The F-9A former that is installed "ANGLED Back Toward The Rear" as the last former used to complete the bomb bay section has been left out - not intentionally, believe me. I do not see nor have read where I was to install it. I just went back and reread this whole build thread to further my continued build and thanks to Peter's series of photos, I saw the angled former. I shouted or screamed out loud as I was running to the shop and found the short F-9A former laying under papers on the work bench. I thought I had somewhat framed up the bomb bay except for the two F-21's that set a frame for the wing. When did you guys install it. Am I to install it as part of the full F-9 former or is the F-9 former broken in the lower portion and the angled F-9A former installed/glued on as the bottom former of the full F-9 former. (Hope I made sense)? Please, I need help on this one. Also was very pleased to have read Noah's and Larry's conversation that stated that the bomb bay begins right behind F-1 through to F-9. Had not paid attention to that either. As always guys, thanks. Chic

Hi guys, did not think any one was still interested in my slow one hand build. Appreciate greatly hearing from all of you. Decided to put the elevator servo under the turrent placement and make the turrent removable when necessary to adjust/fix the servo. Also decided to combine the steering and rudder cables together on the same large servo arm. The tailwheel steering cables on the inside holes (shorter radius) and the rudder cables on the outside holes (larger radius). Also took Larry's idea and made a hatch to provide access to servos and the tailwheel assembly. The yellow nyrod seen passes the steering cables. The rudder cables will flow through in longer nyrod (not in yet) to meet up with the servo. The rudder will move through cables installed on bottom of the rudder (similar to full scale). Chic

Hello everyone I am just about to start building the Kellogg Avenger . I have read this entire thread several times with great interest and find it will be very helpful in my completing the project . Has anyone considered the DA 100 in line for power? Will a DA 85 be completely hidden in the cowl. Thanks in advance for your replys.

Well just got the plans and gear today..looks like the DA 100i will fit with a little tweaking..it's alternate firing so should have a great sound..the Sierra retracts are very nice..the plans look great . Haven't heard back on cowl yet but it should be shortly..has anyone built a -1 by modifying the cowl..I like the oil cooler vents on the side for extra cooling

Paul Mc - Hummm, wouldn't be scale with the oil cooler vents on the side. Check your documentation. I had to modify my cowl's oil cooler vents because the TBF only had one vent - at the top of the cowl. I fiberglassed in the bottom vent for a more scale rendition. That 100-I should be kool. Chic

Squadron/Signal publications have two great books to glean over that shows the -1 oil doors further back from the Kellogg cowl I have vs. the TBF/TBM -3 which had no door only a dedicated slot just above aft of the exhaust stack.

Avenger in Action number 82, ISBN 0-89747-197-0

Avenger Walk Around number 25 , ISBN 0-89747-424-4

The Walk Around edition has very detailed , in color photos of most recent still flying beauties. If you want rivet detail and location, the Walk Around edition is for you. Both are most worthy and may still be available on Amazon or any big box book store. You'll need the ISBN numbers so they can order them if still in print. Don't be suprised if you have to buy a used one.

Sorry Paul Mc. I misunderstood the location of the vents you were speaking about. You are speaking of the two sets of cooling vents on both sides of the fuse of a TBF-1. There are also two flaps on top (rear) of the cowl and one large flap on the bottom (rear) of the cowl that also open for cooling. If you look several posts back, you will see that I have already cut out all of those flaps on the top and bottom of the cowl. I too will have to cut those very side vents out on the fuse on my TBF-1 in an upcoming step of the construction when working back on the fuse again. Ray W. is absolutely correct in his posting about the Avenger documentation that is available. I have everything I could find on the Avenger. Chic

Paul, go to www.Ebay.com and in the search box at the top of the page and type in: TBM Avenger Books All the books you will need are there on the first page (both new and used). That is where I picked up all of my books. Chic
