Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build
#2101
Another Squadron/Signal that has nearly all USN aircraft from 1946-1956 is:
USNAircraft Carrier Air Units, Vol. 1, ISBN 0-89747-164-4
Gorgeous color of those squadron recips and jets on a bunch of pages as only Squadron/Signal can do.
Not many photos of post war TBFs but still, a worthy publication to have in one's airplane library.

LDM - Thank You for those kind words. I wanted to incorporate the stinger gun windows and not build the blunt tail section. I have seen the blunt tail section on full scale Avengers, but I thought the three windows of the stinger gun position would be rather neat. So after doing some measuring from my 1/32 plastic model, I deviated from Charlies' plans by drawing and cutting down Former-13 in the stinger tail gun area to make the area behind Former 13, smaller, come closer together sooner, and closer to scale of the airframe I am building for competition ------ which I just might finish one of these days. Smile. I will finish planking the side at the rear once I finish the rudder/tail wheel final servo adjustments which are nestled just inside the opening. The turrent will be removable so that I can access the elevator servo and the bomb bay air cylinder which if you look down into the turrent hole, you can see. Thanks again. Chic

Chic,
Nice work, strange hadn't got notification of new posts.
Working on the Trojan and hopefully will get back into setting up the Avenger with me NEW gyro so I can fly it in the fall.
Should have bought a house with a 4 car garage as the Avenger tales up 1/4 of the 2 car and my work shop is the single car.

Thanks Larry, I know about having a small place to build. It took awhile for me to get a larger place to build and store the models. Work has to stop on the Avenger. I am stopping work on the Avenger so that I can get something ready to fly this summer. Now that my hand is getting better, I want to go flying like the rest of you boys. Smile. Chic

Chic,
Did u ever fly your jet?
If so please send pix.
We also need to nail down a p[rice for the C-119 as I am getting a part time job in the very near future to be able to fund my hobbies.
Glad all is well.

Chic,
I always underestimate the time it will actually take me to finish a model. My average is one every 3 years +/-. Way to long. I need to figure out how to speed up the process. I'm sure it could be correctable by retiring like Larry.

Chic,
Not to worry, it took John and I a bit over 2 years working appx 3 - 3-1/2 hours a week not to mention 45 minutes at lunch to finish ours
Boyd, retirement isn't helping my build speed. Between going to the field 2 - 3 times a week and repairing damage to my avistar (for some strange reason it refuses to behave) and time with the wife and picking up the grandkids twice a week I'm lucky to get 10 hours a week
Then there is the 20 - 30 minutes to figure out what to do next and how to do it.....so that cuts it down to about 8 hours
On the other hand I am ready to get the horizontal and vertical stabs mounted tomorrow or Thursday, just ordered 2 carbon fiber push rods for the rudder and elevator.
Boyd, can't thank you enough for the help, I have more ?'s coming, sorry to be such a pest.
Safe flying

Hey guys,
Here are some pix of my progress.
The 1/4" stock behind the formers are to be able to screw access panels to get to the elevator horn from both sides
Boyd, I have the horizontal stab tacked with CA, how did you glue yours to the saddle???
Stab is 1/32" out of center but dead on from the nose, don't think it will make a difference.
