Running out the door to take wife somewhere - read backwards through the thread and you will see Charlie's son email. He will make you a cowl/canopy. Chic

Maddog, I am still in therapy. Just started flying within the month, thanks to other folks letting me get a couple of laps. Very kind of them. Will post photos within the month of my being back on the airframe. Have certainly not abandoned the build. Thank you for asking about me and the avenger build. Matter of fact, I'm looking through my stuff for the control surface throws (elev, ail, rudder). Can't find it. Guess I do have time to further locate that sheet. Chic

Hey guys, good to really be back. Therapy is sort of done. I have been standing in front of my workbench actually building for the last several days. I started by installing the wing mounts for the drop tanks. The final step tomorrow will be to adjust the height of the drop tank holders. Then I will glass the bottom of the wing. However, guys, I have a problem, I just got Windows 10 and I do not know how to adjust (resize) the photos to be able to print them here on RCU with my written post.... Can someone please give me a short tutorial as to how to publish and resize my photos here on RCU. Thanks guys. Chic

Chic,
Glad to see you are back at it. Nice work on the drop tanks, very impressive.
If you want to make the pix smaller I think I have found a way. Open the photo and the windows 10 will have an edit button at the top, click on crop and then there will be a list on the right side. Choose aspect ratio and you can choose a size you want.
Let me know if it works. Hope there isn't much snow there, we are in a cold snap here was only 56 here yesterday,
Progress on the Trojan continues slowly, asked for a Saito 1,80 for Xmas, let's see how much Santa likes me this year

"Cold Snap" - Rascal. Smile. It went from 28 to 60 then back down to the 30's deg's in one day. God is having fun with us. Larry, I went to the aspect ratio and questioned what size to reduce. I hope I remember what I did but onward toward finishing this bird to take to the AMA Nationals next summer. Now that is asking for a lot, but I will give it a good effort. Hope the tanks don't break when they drop - smile. Thanks Larry for sticking with me. Chic

Chic,
You might want to try using household spray insulation, drill a hole and spray inside, shouldn't add too much weight and it ashould keep the shell from shattering

Larry - will follow your lead on the spray insulation. Used it once before for something or another, but forgot all about it. Thanks for sure. Have just finished glassing/sanding the bottom of the wings middle section. Moving to glassing the top of the mid section flaps. Chic

Wow - forgot just how large the Avenger's wing really is. Put it together today to final shape the leading edge of the center and outer wing sections before glassing. I glassed the top of the wing center section today. I glassed the bottom several days ago. Laying glass on the top of the center section wing reminded me of how many yards of glass was needed. Need to make a run to West Marine to get more epoxy. Ha, Ha. Thought I'd show you my working torpedo - Ha - heavy glass on the two halves, primer, primer, primer - then sitting down figuring out how to make the propellers spin. It is fun being back into the building mode for sure. Will move to the wing outer wing sections at least through Xmas Eve, don't want to commit social suicide with Shirley travelling to her parents home. May I wish all of you "Happy Holidays". Chic

Chic,
Beautiful work. Just think about my 84" Trojan wing in a 120" wide garage
Love the torpedo, John and I didn't get that far, but we did spend months arguing about putting rivets and panel lines on the plane (I lost) no rivets.
So here's my question, did you brush or use the squeegee method for the cloth?
In case your interested, IFLYTALLIES has a scale rear gun turret for the Avenger, all you need to do is send him the gun bubble and they make to fit.
I thought I would have the fuselage sheeted this week but alas I didn't listen to Boyd about getting the canopy slides from Zirolli and now I will have to order his as I'm not thrilled with the ones I got from Dynamic Balsa.

I want to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas, Happy Hannaka and best wishes for the New Year.

Hey Larry,
To tell you the truth, I used both a brush/squeegee method. I sanded the mid section far too much and ended up with weak spots. in both the top and bottom. Knowing the mid section carries the weight of the landing gear, servos, etc., I decided to use a heavier cloth and I brushed it on and squeegeed the waste off and used the residue in different/weak spots. With regards to the turrent, I contacted IFLYTALLIES, but when he told me the $$$$ price, I decided to do what Noah did and build my own. Close to finish with it so I will shoot some photos soon. Following Noah's direction, it was not too hard to construct. I will have a pilot/observer/and turrent gunner. They won't have waist/egs due to the weight but they should look good sitting there reading a map and/or a Life or Playboy magazine. Smile. Again, since I do not want to commit social sucide here at home and travelling with Shirley to her parents home in Port Royal, Va., work on the Avenger will slow through the Xmas Eve/Day. So I support Larry wishing a safe and Merry Christmas, Happy Hannaka, and a Blue Sky and Light Winds in the New Year to "ALL". Chic

Chic,
I hear you.
Be careful building the gun turret, I built one and it was about 1/2" too high . I am considering building another one if I ever get the mindset to get the Avenger ready to fly this year... it's a puzzlement I tell you!!!!

Be safe my friend

Larry
