Hey brother
I have the plans here and will double check them when I get home from work this afternoon.
We solved this problem by NOT being comfortable with the rod setup and just used BIG nylon hinges, not scale but worked great.
Hoping to rebuild the Avenger stand next week and start rehabbing the Avenger and installing the gyro in the next 2 to three weeks...
Garage is starting to get really warm due to temps in the low 90's the last few days.

Rascal but still my brother. Temps in the 90's. We are pushing the envelope to get to the mid 40's here. Smile. Thanks Brother. Chic

Larry - Thanks for the really great photo which gave me a lot of helpful information. If you look carefully, you can see that the trailing edge of the horizontal stab is almost even with the rear of the fuse. Either I am reading you and Noah wrong, but look at my picture in the recent post on page 97. That rudder post must be installed wrong by me. Therefore when I installed the rudder and fin against the rear of the fuse, I "MUST", cut into the trailing edge of the horizontal fin. Wish I had kept up with You, Noah, Pete, etc. during this build. Seems like I am nothing but problems for you guys. Chic

NONSENSE, you aren't a problem, we all need help with our builds and that's what this brotherhood is all about.
If it weren't for Charlie, Noah and you the Avenger would still be a pile of sticks.
If you have to cut that you might want to consider epoxing a thin piece of G10 to it for added strength.
If I could get my wifes metal sculptures out of the garage and hung outside I could probably get you better shots..cause we need a metal palm tree, turtle and fish affixed to our cement walls....

Just about satisfied with the rudder/stab installation. Pictures soon. Based on my Posts 2036-28 on page 82, I have to modify the rudder installation in order to accept the torque tube to be installed between the two elevator halves and the elevator servo connecting arrow shaft coming out of the fuse. Also. with my trying to copy the support pieces installed in the full scale rudder fin to strengthen it, (see Post 2425), the sides of the rudder fins appear to be a bit wider then required and will need to be reduced in size. The opening in the rudder where the elevator torque tube appears on the full scale is not quite located in the correct place on the models' rudder (black) elevator servo arrow coming out of the fuse. Will need more adjustments. The slit for the horizontal stab was hogged out enough to get the horizontal stab trailing edge closer to the rear of the fuse and to support the 1/4" rudder support. Shirley just called for lunch, will head to shop after lunch to take pictures. Chic

Hey Guys - The Horizontal Stab Is ON. The T-88 Structural Epoxy is "DRYING". Used my Cross- Hairs Laser (yellow box on tripod in last photo) to insure the wing and horizontal stab are level. Will do the same when I glue the vertical fin on. Thanks for the help and good words guys. Chic

Nice work but a laser level, REALLY???? Someone has way too much disposable income.
Like the pix of the F4 on the wall, one of my favs right after the Connie, P38 and the Skyraider, though the C119 is right up there......
Was going to start glossing the Trojan wing today but after changing the air filters for the HVAC and hanging the wife's metal sculptures on the wall outside I retired to the couch
I noticed that you already started on the instrument panel, a little ahead of yourself?... LOL

Ha, Ha. I like the couch idea, I had that problem today to keep myself from messy with the glued horizontal stab back in the shop. Beside, its cold back here (mid 40s). That instrument panel is a cardboard template. Stuck it there for motivation. LOL You have great eyes for one who escaped from the cold weather. I got a ride in the back of an F-4 by the Marines for having my Comm troops fix their broken down hand held radios. They made me an Honorary Marine they were so happy. I love that airframe. My acid test is to build a Skymaster Jets turbine F-4 one day in the future. I have my jet waiver but not ready to tackle that puppy. Come on, disposable income, well .......... I brought it off Ebay, bout $60. Even us retirees can afford that. LOL. Can't wait for tomorrow to go in an reinforce the mounting of the horizontal stab. Shirley ask me to do something, I tell her to call one of her boyfriends (lawn care, carpenter, plumber, anyone) cause I am retired and therefore, my day is spent doing what I have dreamed about for all those working years - Get up, go to 7/11 to get Hazelnut coffee, eat breakfast (oatmeal/fruit/toast or boiled eggs/bacon/toast, then head for the shop for a day with my love - my model planes. Stay Well and Stay Safe Out There - All of you guys. Chic

Looking spot on, Chic! Nice work.

Speaking of "subtitles in the background" (in reference to 'eagle eye Larry'), whats the deal with the pad lock on the pull-out drawer handle??!?

I must say, that's not a particularly effect methods of locking a drawer!

What are you storing in that drawer, anyway?!

OMG - You guys are "GOOD". LOL. The pad lock on the drawer was placed there because I didn't know what else to do with it. You had me look in the drawer to see just what was in there. I did find my buddy, you'll love him. (Photo). Now you got me looking around the shop through the photos. Back to the shop. Thanks Guys. Chic

As Noah said in one of his past posts - "This is a "BIG" girl. Girlfriend is laying on her side so that I can reinforce the stab installation by putting a epoxy/fiberglass milling mix into the gaps between the fuse and the stab. Waiting to hear what you eagle eyes see this time. Its' kool seeing what you see. Chic

Chic,
I do have a few ?'s
In post 2425 I was going to ask who belongs to the angry birds on the desk.
In the latest post I see a pix of a Connie Awacs and I believe a "79 vette, looks like the '78 Silver Anniversary I had sans rear spoiler, but I did have the solid and glass T tops, couldn't use the glass in the summer since after a half hour I felt like a fried chicken.
The plane is looking awesome, got home from work a couple of hours ago to find the grandson still here so when I went in the garage to start glassing the wing I just didn't have any gas left in the tank
Hopefully I can get 1 panel glassed tomorrow AM since I don't have to be at work til 4:30

Keep up the excellent work brother and tell your little pal to stop sitting around and get to work

Larry

Hahahahaha!!

So funny.

Now I see a dry erase board with a "to-do" list that has only two tasks listed... Hmmmmm. Do you update that list hourly? Hahaha!

Only kidding. I think now we have you shifted to the side of paranoia (what are they guys doing snooping around my shop?!?!).

Fear not, Chic. Nothing but love and encouragement for you, here.

Yes, get that little stuffed fat guy wearing the olympic rings back got work!

All the best,

Noah

Hey be nice to that stuffed fat guy - that is Home Depot's "Homer". You guys are too young to remember him. The Angry Birds, the kids in all grades at school started me on the birds. They would bring me pins, buttons, balloons, t-shirts, whatever had Angry Birds on it. I think they were trying to tell me something. I kept the theme with me even into retirement. Those same kids call and text me even today. All the kids I taught had my home phone number and in 20+ years of teaching, I only received 2 bad calls. I don't play the computer game, I just love those funny looking red birds.

Larry, close on the Vette, it is a 1982 Collector Edition. My license plate reads: Y-SPEED, smile. She comes out of heated winter storage in April. Remember, its cold, wet, and snowy back here. Send photo tomorrow. Noah, that white board was Shirley's idea. She thought it would help me keep order in the shop - right. Update, did you say update even hourly, ha, ha. How about once per quarter if that. Smile. Larry, I'm gonna let you build the Dollar Nineteen, me, I have always wanted to build the AWACS Constellation (Domes on the top/bottom). Use to see the old ones fly at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. That is when as a kid on the observation deck, the pilots would open up their cockpit windows and talk to us. Just love the massive cloud of bellowing burnt oil when they started up those 4 engines. Pipe dream even though I had Don Smith personally enlarge his plans in order to build the elongated AWAC version of the Connie.

Guys, I am really enjoying this. You guys are really good. Best hide my John Kasich ballot next. Smile. Chic

Chic,
I will build the dollar nineteen once I get through the Trojan and get the wife to write you a check for it.
Still need to try and get the Avenger in the air this year.
As for our back and forth it's good to relieve the enjoyment/stress of the builds, if I didn't have such a bad case of ADD I could probably find more, like maybe an otter looking over the computer.
As for Homer I remember him well as I just got one year closer to 70 the other day.
Wish I had a 3 car garage so I could build a Connie and another P38' oh right, besides not having the garage I would need a wife who was a touch more understanding LMAO and with a much BIGGER wallet and I think you meant a Kasich ballot unless you know something Noah and I don't

Larry, correction made, don't think he can dance well enough to be in the New York ballet. If I had my way, I would have a small pool in the backyard, just for my pet otter. Maybe in another life. Stay well and Stay safe guys. Chic

Well as you can see, I'm fumbling with the installation of the black gizmo (elevator control horn I created) as seen in posts 2027-28. However, I'm going to have to finish the Stits covered elevator halves (shrinking then pinking the leading/trailing edges and tips, and top coat before primer) before I finalize the installation. The gizmo will be glued into holes drilled into the ends of the elevator halves. I will have to shorten the elevator shaft to connect with the control horn as seen in the third photo. Also have to match up the "open" area where the control horn sits with regards to the rudder. Will have the point of connection with the servo shaft and control horn close to fuse because I do not see a lot of down elevator would be used. For contest purposes, I certainly want to be as scale like as possible. In the full scale, there is a considerable open area where the stab/elevators connector is seen and perpendicular to the rudder. See ya in a couple of days after working through this. Wait patiently for my upcoming questions. Because they will be coming. Smile. Stay Well and Stay Safe. Chic
