Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Chic,
Nice work. As for the hub caps you may want to try some canopy adhesive, a dab at 12 - 3 - 6 and 9 should hold it and make it easier to remove if need be.
Nice work on the retract area

Yea - Yea --- Happy Days are here again. 74 degrees here today. Took the Avenger out of the shop for some fresh air to the backyard and WooooPeeeee. Dave Browns Grey Coat (although my Grey Coat is darker then his Grey Coat) is on the model. I called him and told him, my Grey Coat is much darker then his as shown on his video. He told me, it was grey only because of what he had on hand at the time. He told me it doesn't matter what the color is. The only purpose of this coat of paint is to further highlight the blemishes that need to be fixed before you start with the model's color scheme). Was able to paint the fuse, tail feathers, wings, flaps, cowl, bomb bay doors, retract area covers. Thanks to my lovely wife for all her help. Now she can head out to TJ Max with a little extra cash in her pocket. Ha. Ha. Ha. Thanks Larry. P.S. Bonus: No WIND Today. Chic

Chic,
74 wow, you must have turned on the AC
Post some pix
87 today, 92 Sat and Sun, need to button up the Avenger before it gets too hot and starts melting tires on the Tarmac
Work schedule is so wacked out that I have to try and find some time.

Very nice Chic, once you get it sanded you can start with the 10,000+ rivets
Just finished laying down the rivets on the Trojan fuse, now the fun of dropping glue on them begins
Enjoy the warm weather

Chic,
It looks like your on your way for a maiden this summer. Good luck.
BTW - I could not help but noticed the Hawkeye photos. Charlie sent me the blue prints, moldings and a partially built Gruman Tracker to finish for him. I've put it on the back burner for now.
Noah,
I'm sure you meant the zero, not the trees. Ha!
Boyd.

Boyd, three airframes I love - F-4, Avenger, and the Hawkeye. The Tracker would be a close cousin that I would love to build. But as my friend tells me, we are running out of birthdays. If you ever solve all the prototype problems, you can certainly put my name down for a kit of the Tracker. Good hearing from you Boyd and thanks. Chic

Boyd,
I it just so happens that I sent Chic a set of plans for the Hawkeye, my build buddy and I were going to build it and then I decided I was going to retire and move to the nice cool? weather here in Arizona
My 3 favorite planes are the Connie, P-38 and F-4 Phantom oh yeah and the 4th the C-119 flying Boxcar
Boyd, can't wait to see how the tracker turns out.
BTW, off to the Pima Museum in 2 weeks if anybody needs pix let me know

Hey guys, im inching closer to my maiden and got a big hurdle complete the tuuret is now finished. It was a total pain in my butt because i have a gunner inside as well. I thought i could do it in 2 days but took me a whole week because i had to stop and redo parts 3 time to get the right fit. Hopefully she will be ready for the maiden mext week.

Well alright Navy, looking really good. About to spray my version of the TBF Avenger airplane with an all white coat of paint this week. Look back a few posts to see my final paint scheme. Need to first draw the panel lines and lay the rivets prior to painting the
coat of paint (white) on Thursday. Suppose to be 70+ degrees on Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed. Chic

Not sure how I can make Winston look as rugged as that Navy gunner. Looks like he has had a few missions. Winston is too proper, but he requested a mission with the Fleet Air Arm Tarpons and as Prime Minister, his request was granted. Smile. Keep it up. Chic

Really nice work on the turret, really like the shells in the feed rack but I think he needs a shave
Just finished the rivets on the Trojan fuse, now on to the wing, progress...
Not thrilled with the inboard flap repair but at least they now deploy the same as the outboard ones...
Garage is hovering around 85 by noon so early AM work

Chic,
Putting the rivets down isn't so bad, putting drops of glue on them is another story, the heat wants to set the glue after I do about 20 of them
85 degrees is starting to get REALLY warm, can't wait to see pix of the rivets
Off to PIMA Tuesday so if anyone needs pix let me know, happy to oblige

Sorry guys, I'm so excited about getting to this point in the build, I forgot about more primer needed to fill in for the panel lines. Nik the white paint until maybe next week. Need to lay the lines down, primer the lines, wet sand the lines with 220 and 600 - then lay down the rivets. THEN Paint the color coat. I am sooooo anxious. I'll get it straight yet. Chic
