Drop Tanks were handmade with green craft foam that was hollowed out and laid up with fiberglass cloth. Detailed
'Drop Tank" construction article in Model Airplane News (Online Article). Chic

Very nice, you guys be safe out there. Very few fireworks here as it's way too dry, waiting for the rain/monsoons

Thanks Bob, hope to be there and hang out with you guys. Larry, it is the soft round foam masking tape I'm concerned with. The adhesive is not very strong, it sticks but I'm concerned how well it will stick. I believe it will be the last thing I put on. I may place the foam masking tape over the edge of the blue tape to get the soft edge of the camo. Chic

Chic,
Ive used the round tape before and it really does stick fine. I don't think you'll have any issues with it.

Thanks BobH for the assurance. I certainly trust your judgement. May attempt to paint this small section this afternoon within the workshop. LPLV gun for sure. Chic

BobH - And fellow Avenger builders, having that LVLP spray gun, made me realize, I could shoot within my small shop so I just finished shooting the Black on the cowl and small section of the fuse. Will shoot photos once the paint flashed off. I am smiling again. Smile. Chic

Chic, I have started on it yet. I am still trying to figure out How I want to go about doing some mods for the version I want to model. Are you going to WOD? I will be there and I will have it in my trailer if you want to take a peek at her. I also see the Kellogg avenger is for sale again on the Ziroli website. Looks like Ill be buying another.

Chic,
Looks really good!
FYI I spray inside as often as I can. Much better conditions for the most part. I too use a HVLP gun and I like it.
FYI Mine is an Iwata detail gun. Excellent spray pattern!

BobH - When using the HVLP gun, what air pressure are you using? I have HVLP guns but I didn't think I could use it in the shop versus the LVLP gun. Thought the overspray would be all over the place. Carl - Rick Moreland and I will be going to WOD but not sure which day. Rick said it depends on the weather. Carl, I look forward to seeing you, BobH, and others at WOD. Chic

Chic,
Normally it's around 30 psi depending on what kind of paint.
I do get some oversprar but it's manageable. I also have a ceiling mounted dust fan that helps clear the air.

Chic, truly amazing job getting the Avenger into its final state. You should be justifiably proud! I’m so glad I was there to see it in the shop back when it was a rudder and an elevator all framed up and not much else.... look how far it’s come! Truly inspirational. Thanks for taking all of us along on this journey with you and Shirley! Can’t wait to see it in person again. And can’t wait to watch you fly it!

Noah, Noah, great hearing from you. Taking the summer off or teaching over the summer. You move into a house yet so that you can start your next project? Hey Colonel, glad to hear from you. The White House over on Penna. Ave., not this White House, is in turmoil, you need to come back and carry the football for Trump and whisper "NO" in his ear once in awhile. Thanks for the kind words, you know you will get your turn to fly it as long as you don't do your usual Snaproll on takeoff. Smile. Chic

Have to keep reminding myself of the end product, the final goal color scheme.

I love that Tarpon paint scheme. If I ever start my TBF Kellogg kit, I may attempt to duplicate as it is most distinctively different.

Yes, it is a beautiful and distinctive paint scheme. They also used it on the B-24 and B-17 that patrolled the coastlines of England. Certainly welcome to duplicate it, because it is so impressive. Chic

Today, I am applying the Non-Skid Walkways using acrylic black paint with generous amounts of microballons mixed in. Will either steel wool or lightly sand when dry to remove any possible high areas. Then rub in some brown or leather to add to the wear factor. This evening I will complete the camo design on the stabilizer and elevators. Chic

Well Alright, Alright, Alright. Had to borrow Matt McConaughey's favorite phrase. Thanks Guys. Chad, your rivets/screws look great on the airframe. Looks like I may get to do some painting on the wings today. Great weather outside. Chic

Weathered the Wingwalks, will apply simulated gas spills around the wing gas caps after the paint is dry.
