Here we go again - Nir, my friend, a jet builder, a jet flyer, and my jet trainer, came by the shop to view the Avenger. He loved it all especially the construction and paint scheme, however, he did not like the rudder pull/pull servo arm connection. He clearly showed me the anticipated rudder movement - thus flutter based on the sloppiness of my homemade servo arm setup. The setup provided far toooooo much sloop in the rudder which is an invitation to major FLUTTER. He was able to tap the rudder and get far toooo much movement before the cables locked in the movement. So I am now removing the rudder and rewiring the pull/pull cable and using a 2" SWB servo arm. Removing the rudder to attach new cable involves digging into the top of the rudder where the hinge point wire sits. It then needs to be pulled out (over 12") to release the rudder from the fin. O'well, better to get it right. Chic

Boyd - Great hearing from you. I had soooooo much slop in the setup, if you flicked the rudder with your finger, it would have wiggled several times from the middle to whatever side you were flicking it. I don't know what else to do except turn the turnbuckles in as tight as I can. Looking for answers from others if my approach is not enough. Chic

Sorry to hear about the pull pull problem.
We did a Sullivan Nyrod from the servo to the rudder and it works great, you would only need to cut the slot for where the nyrod exits the fuse in front of the rudder.
Think about it, it is an easy fix

Hey guys - Here is my setup. Hope to now fully adjust the tension on the rudder and the tailwheel cables. Larry - I have nyrod runs to both the rudder and the tailwheel, just sloppy and I did not notice it until clearly shown to me. Photos show the ends of the cable run, the circular servo arm used on the bottom of the rudder to move the rudder through cable. Been looking at it all to hard and far too long. Chic

Sweet Business Chic! With that new Arm we’ll be able to get enough throw for some killer hammerhead turns and maybe even a snaproll! I like it!

Hey guys,
Good news, bad news.
Good news -Finally got to balance the Avenger
Bad news - Put it on the balance stand with wheels up and found out that I would need another pound of nose weight to balance it????
I Am going to build another balance stand so we can try it again with the wheels down. We must have balanced it originally with the wheels down, it flew great on the original maiden with the wheels down.

There is already 4+ pounds in the nose, just seems strange that it would be off that much with the gear down, will have to rebalance again when I get the engine running and attach the cowl, thinking I should be able to take at least a pound out of the nose.
Work progresses on the Trojan, finally finished rivets on the canopies and cowl, need to clean up the wing fairing and then I think I'm ready for paint

Hey - Hey - Hey You Guys: Help this senior citizen understand "WHY" on the Avenger, it makes a difference in its balance point, wheels up or wheels down, especially since the rotation of the landing gear is not forward or backward of the landing gear pivot point? 90% of the new servo arm cables/rudder connection is finished. Working on the connection of the cables to the bottom of the rudder (round servo arm). See previous photos. Will finish after the Steeler/raven game. Ha, Ha. Chic

Hey Guys, Boyd is "Of Course" correct. I was shocked when I saw several videos on how the extending or retracting of landing gear effected the CG of a model airplane.
Went to YouTube. Typed in: Great Planes P51 retracts cause shift in CG and/or FMS P-51 gear extended effect on cg
