Who's going to Warbirds over the Rockies Sept 26-28
On September 26-28, Love Air RC will be hosting one of the nation's best warbirds events with over 140 pilots expected and many, many great aircraft at Drake Field east of Ft Collins CO.
This event is especially designed especially for the warbird pilot. All aircraft must have been used in the military and be in military paint schemes. Landing fee $25.00. Aircraft of any scale are welcome including arfs. This means lots of open flying without interference from flying lawn mowers or 3D planes. The noon pyro show will be even more spectacular and there are openings for big bombers and fighters to participate. In excess of $15,000 in R/C merchandise, most of it going to the pilots over the 3-day event. Some items will be sold at auction during the Saturday night banquet.
The field is sporting $15,000 in infield improvements, in anticipation of the many pilots scheduled to take part in the fly-in. The runway is 800x70 ft
Famous Dave’s BBQ will be the official field food vendor for 2008. Friday night there will be an impromptu Famous Dave’s “Big Pig” dinner on the field; tickets are $15.00. The banquet on Saturday night, is being provided by the Lory Student Union, at Colorado State University. The dinner features Prime Rib, with all the fixings, soft drink and dessert. Cost is $35 per person. The banquet will be both entertaining and full of surprises. The guest speaker Col. Bob Thacker, is a WW II Ace who was one of the pilots in an unarmed B-17 at Pearl Harbor. Banquet tickets are available on-line or at the field
Joe Thibodeau, the Reno Race Champion, is scheduled to fly by in his full size Sea Fury!
