Does anybody know where I can get slide rails for my TF Giant Corsair. I bought some for my 1/4 scale Corsair but can't remember where I bought them.

Please Help,

you can make them for $6 with K & S brass rails or spend the $30 or more from Balsa Products for precut rails

dynamic balsa, but what you get isn't worth what you pay for it.

ya , that is what I meant , that is why I think your better off with K& S brass rails , all you do is get a dremil cutting wheel and cut a nice straight grove in the rail the length needed .
Then you can either use parts of a railroad track for the "T" portion that slides in the rail or use car ball joints attached to wood that gets attached to the canopy .THen the balljoints slide into the rails

I made them with a friends cutting machine that is much more accurate than a dremel with a cutting wheel. Here's what they look like. Now since I'm modifying my F4U-1D TF Giant Corsair into a F4U-5N Korean fighter after Guy Bordelon's Corsair I have to change the way TF did thier stringers in the cockpit area. The 5N had a hump behind the pilots head for head room. I'm also going to make an aluminum frame for the canopy and only it will be painted. The other braces will remain clear and from 10 ft away nobody will see them.

I used brass square and made a slot using a dremel. I cleaned it with a file and am happy with the results. It was not hard or expensive.

LDM,

I was at his shop which is loaded with CNC machines. It is made just to cut channels in all sizes of materials. It was probably at least a $50,0000.00 machine. It took him more time to set it up just right so the slot was in the middle and then about 3 minutes to cut each slot. He has cutting bits all the way from 1/16" up to real big. He has 4 of these machines and this was the smallest one. It must weight about 2 tons. I'll take a picture of it next time I'm out there checking on my exhaust. I'm selling them noiw if anybody wants a set of 12" rails just PM me and I'll give you his price.

Barry /Gibbs , do you realize that if you can make them and ship then at a profit for lets say $15.00 dollars , you will be 50% under (you know who)???

If you think its a good business model , sign me up brother , I will take two sets !!!!
Typicall dont need more then 8 to 10 " , two piece rails , max

LDM,

I'm having to pay for the tubes and then the machinist. I figured $20.00 plus shipping was fair and already sold one pair at that price, and I know who your talking about. I paid to much for the ones I got for my 1/4 scale Corsair from him. Competetion is always good with any product. Plus I need to make a little money for myself. Plus he doesn't make the smaller ones for the TF Corsair. You have to buy 3/8" and they are heavier also. I will be able to make bigger or smaller and the price won't change much.

Any takers?

I made a change on the rails. The first picture of them in an earlier post had a 1/8" slot and it was in my opinion a little sloppy. So before sending any out I changed it to 3/32" which gives 2/1000's of an inch clearence on each side of the ball link. It slides nicely now with out any slop. Here they are. PM me if you like them and are interested in a set.
