Aeroworks 50cc QB Mustang??
Look what I found... Saw it here on the net (MA News website) and in the latest copy of Fly RC in an Aeroworks ad. If it's anything like the other QB aircraft, count me in for sure.

QB means quick build. I also seen this plane at war birds over the rockies. very nice scale looking plane. Rocco. was thinking it be in the $1500 range maybe? The one they had there was the first prototype and hadn't even had a chance to fly it yet.

RE: Aeroworks 50cc QB Mustang??
I saw this too at WOTR, looked it over carefully and discussed at some length with Rocco. I am familiar with the Aeroworks QB IMAC planes; they are built up wood with Ultracoat covering and pre-hinged surfaces - a lot of pre-assembly and good quality hardware. They have a good reputation and people in our club have been very happy. I don't know how it will translate to warbirds, but Aeroworks' designs tend to fly well. Rocco said that the retracts and struts (but not the scale wheels shown on the prototype) would be included in the $1500 price.
My complaints, as always, are about some minor scale details that do not appear right to my eye and would be difficult to correct. Exhaust stacks that are molded in to the fiberglass cowl ... can be redone but would take some effort. Shape of the wing tips may be too square and the top of the vertical stab and rudder a bit too rounded. Horizontal stab too low, similar to the TF 1/5th scale. The valve cover clearance "bumps" in the cowl did not seem quite right ... etc.
Regardless, if we get a decent bonus this year, I'm going to get one.

Wow, $1500 for a wood built up with roughly the dimensions of the top flite version at 1/4 or so of the price? I don't see what all the excitement is about. If it was a detailed glass/composite version like the Aerotech version I could understand, but this one doesn't do it for me at 1.5K If it was around $600 or so I might give it a look over. I think you would be better off getting the TF ARC, covering or glassing to your liking, buying scale gear, retracts and wheels and you'd still have enough left to buy a DA-50 or DL-50.

I am with MANFRED on this one. At $1,500 I cannot see all the excitement. The final street price is going to make all the difference on this one. It will have to be $999 to make a dent in the market.
What it has going for it is the Ultracoat covering versus the "Chinacoat" that they have on the TF ARF. Whatever they put on that TF ARF isn't even Monocote and it wrinkles up like crazy. I can't understand how Great Planes can endorse that Chinacoat stuff. Anyway, the steet price on the TF ARC is $350 and the TF ARF is $450. Add a nice pair of Sierra Giant Scale gear and you are still under $900 for an extremely good flying, good looking Mustang. So somebody will have to point out to me why I should get excited about this new Aeroworks ARF for $1,500. I would rather go buy an new DA-50 with the money I can save. Leo

I'd LOVE to find a new 1/5 scale P51 with robart retracts, retractable tail wheel, inner gear doors, sliding canopy, full detailed cockpit and aluminum reinforced retract rails for $600! When I add up the TH prices for the TF ARF with retracts and air kit I get over $900 even without shipping and then add 25 to 50 hrs. assembling it. And WOW!...the Aerotech kit is nearly $3,000 if you include the sliding canopy kit plus many hours of assembly and finishing. I think a QB 1/5, retract inclusive Warbird somewhere between the TF ARF and the Aerotech at around $1500 will find a market if Rocco et. all maintain their usual quality control.

RE: Aeroworks 50cc QB Mustang??
I,m with ya Fytrjok.
I,m excited about this AW option. $1400-$1500 is a good price IMHO if it comes with nice aluminum wheels as well.
We have to remember that a 50cc QB plane is worth $700, so having a 50cc warbird with installed working retracts and other accesories will be worth another $700 to a lot of guys.
I,ve got a Ziroli P-47 on the work table at present and will hopefully have it in a silver primered state for its flight testing this summer, but its going to require a lot more time to finish it up.
A P-51 ARF will probably be necessary if I want to fly a scale warbird throughout this next season.
It is nice to see additional options available to all of us regarding warbird airplanes.

As for the P-51, yes $1500.00 is a large price but there has to be more than meets the eye. There is very little information out on this plane as of yet.

Let's hope there's more than meets the eye! I guess some people will pay anything for a plane if it strikes their fancy.

I found a company in China that makes these (Same as Ultra RC).
They make a Corsair that I really want.
the hard part is getting them into this country.

RE: Aeroworks 50cc QB Mustang??
I called Aeroworks today to see when it will be released & how much. I was told around March & cost between $1500-$2000. At $1500 with the retracts & wheels I would most likely order one but, for $2000.00 I don't think so.

RE: Aeroworks 50cc QB Mustang??
I am sure that some will be happy to pay that much but it will have to be all top equipment. I know that Aeroworks has nice planes but at $2000 it would have to be composite (no not the Aerotech caliber but composite) for me to buy it not a built up plane with plastic covering no matter what brand covering it has. I noticed that it said that the wheels shown would not be included with the plane which makes the price even worse to me. I hope that at that price it had a full painted scale cockpit, sliding canopy, Sierra Retracts, Sierra Wheels, and avery scale pilot, but like I said some will be happy to pay it and think that it was a good deal. I will be courious on how the final production plane comes. It does look like a nice plane but so does a TF so it seems that it needs more than just looks at that price. I am not knocking it just my 2Cents.
That 96" P-51 is the same one that Giant Scale Planes was importing under the CMP name. The Corsair looks like is going to be imported by TBM also later but there has been more than one company that has said that they were going to sell the 100" Corsair pictured but never have do to manufactuer faults. Sorry not to take away from this thread just some info.

Might be mistaken, but I think i remember Rocco telling me the fuse is fiberglass, not built up wood. I do remember him talking about panel lines and rivit detail
