Default Aerotech Ki-84 Frank

Well, in keeping with my poor poilicy of trying to work on too many planes at once, I have pulled a 5th plane out to work on and try to get ready for spring. This is a Wayne Siewert (Aerotech) Ki-84 Frank. I have always liked the lines of the Frank, and when I first met Wayne in 1998, he had this prototype kit built and took it to shows, and hung it at his facility. I have been trying to buy it ever since. After 11 years, I succeeded. It has the most awesome paint scheme on any Japanese plane I have ever seen. I loved it from day one.

This is the prototype, with a carbon fibre wing and a fiberglass fuse. As many know, the later fuselages were made of carbon fibre. When Wayne decided to close his shop down, it gave me a chance to talk him out of it. He's a terrific guy, and I appreaciated him selling it to me. I hope I don't splat it.....too soon anyway.

Here is the fuselage preparing to mount a Brisson 4.2 in it:

Japanese warbirds are my favorite, especially the Frank. I'm looking foward to your build progress.

I agree...the Frank actually flies better than a Zero...in model form anyway...cannot speak of full scale. Here is what the plane is painted and looks like:

You know Jeff if you felt you were hurting for projects I could have brought something by. I'll be lucky to have Phil's Skyraider wing done let alone anything for myself ready for this spring.

That scheme does look pretty sweet.

I have Wayne’s 1993 top gun Frank. It has his initials and date on the wing under the saddle. I bought it in 1999 from Johnny Hernandez and sold it a few years later. I always regretted selling it. Out of no where it showed up at an event a little over a year ago. There was no way I was leaving the event without buying her back. I did. I updated the radio system and engine. I remaidened her last Sunday at bomberfield. She will be flying at the June and September events there.
