I don't think you can get any more secure on a wing lock as the screw drive will hold the wing in position.

We agree Sam. For the first time since working with these, I really do feel confident in the wing lock to lower them as we taxi out and go. I would never have done that with the hydraulic system.

Mods added to the main gear.

Got my gear back from Darrell.
He welded the fork to re-enforce it for any future hard landings.
He also added some new pins to my scissors as the oleos were turning and causing the wheels to have some small rotation which caused them to bind when I pulled the plane backwards. They are nice and tight, now.

Good upgrades.

Did you change your front wing hinges out with the new ones?

Jamf4u,
Looks like a very nice paint job.
Thanks for posting the pictures as I was wondering what those half circle arrows were for on my decals sheets that I got from Taylor made.
For the overheating, you'll probably going to need to add the functional cowl flaps and baffling won't hurt, either.

Thinking about both at the moment.

First flight - Electric Comp Arf F4-U

Finally got this thing in the air. My goal was not to go nuts with scale, rather make a sport racer warbird with some nods to traditional Corsair markings. Many of you are familiar with the OLATHE NAS tag on the dove gray scheme. You may not realize that Castle is based in Olathe, which is a suburb of Kansas City.

I've set this up with a Neu 2220 1.5Y, with a 6.7 -1 gearbox. It spins a 30 x 16 prop at up to 4,000 rpm - so definitely in the range of the radials that I've seen posted here.

It's carrying 12S, 2P 8300 mAh cells. I flew for 7+ minutes yesterday and used less than half of that capacity, so I can likely get right at 15 minutes should I choose.

Balance was a non-issue, the batteries tuck up under that cowl and that's about all that's needed to keep the CG in a good place.

Still have a bit of art work to do and maybe a few upgrades here and there, but overall, I couldn't be happier with the first flight.

Pics to follow as soon as I figure it out.

Lee

Lee,
That's the largest plane that I've seen, battery operated.
I like the cowl mod'.

WOW Lee, electric ? I had no idea it was practical at that size . What is the cost ratio , electric Vs. Moki 250 radial ?
Are you planning any radial engine sound system ?

Default RE: COMP ARF 110

Ha, this is one of the few times I can come out on the top in one of these.

Moki 250 = $4k.

Electric Neu 2220 + gearbox = $1k
Controller - Castle 160ICE 2 HV = $300
Batteries = 3S x 8 packs @ 120 = $1k

Oh yeah, John Harrison's sound system = maybe $200 ?(I might be totally off on this one, although I have one coming soon)

So, for $2,500 you can swing a 30" 3 blade at 4,100 rpm for 15 minutes. No shake, shimmy, mufflers, gassy vehicle interior etc....

Now if the question were how does this compare to a more traditional motor, like a DA 100, 120, 150 DA all the way.

The COMP ARF Corsair looks huge, but it breaks down pretty well. I can haul it in my 'wagon pretty easily.

I also went with a sport scale version. The lucky gallon as shown below. Waiting for weather to break to maiden.

NICE!

I managed to stumble across Race 57 when she was on a sleepover at Chino.... I had enough trouble painting mine solid blue.
