Default Jerry Bates 1/5.5 F8F Bearcat

Hey there fellow RCU'ers, looking for more information on this particular model. Is anyone out there building or flying this model?

My grandpa scratch built the 1/5.5 scale version about 20 years ago, before reputable kit cutters were around, and has been sitting unfinished in primer ever since. He is giving it to me and will be picking it up this weekend to complete it.

Not sure what it weighs, but I would say somewhere around 20lbs with a G38 mounted on it. Little concerned about this power plant here in the Mile High city.

Will update thread with pictures once obtained.

I built one and its a great flyer. I had a G62 in but it was too much of a shaker so I put in a 60cc twin. Mine came out to 23lbs, scale articulating main gear and robart tail retract. Currently working on Bates 1/5th scale version.

Very nice looking bearcat! Glad to hear it flies well. I picked up the F8F the other day, and looks like my grandpa did a great job on it, will give it a solid once over. Will update the servo's, flaps need re-hinging, but other than that wont need a whole lot.

Still a little worried about the G38 for power here in Denver, im ok with it flying scale, but not sure if it will be enough. Will test fly in primer.
