Yea I know but I already have a 325!! and I know it's smaller at around 52 CC but four strokes make up for that in torque. With something like the Zero, I fly scale anyway. Never did see a Zero torque rolling in any of the footage I'v looked at. Unless it was on it's way down with a trail of smake coming from it. Ha. I'v seen the 325's pull a mighty big stearman at times. If I dodn't go with the 325 will put a strong G-62 on it!!

What size prop and what RPM does it swing the prop? I use the G62 and it swings a 22X10 6100RPM. The cowl is able to handle 8.5" diameter round engine.

8.5?. the CMP 80incher has a 9 1/4 or 9 1/2 Cowl, cant remember.. I just ordered another one last night. so ill know for sure in a few days what it is. I had a brison 3.2 in it and the last cooling fin on the head was flush with the cowl.. that i know ...lol


So the TBM cowling and or the fuse diameter is smaller than what would be scale?

It doesn't fit in the TMP Zero. I have a 325 and it was going in the zero until I mounted it and found out #1 you have to cut the box down by about 50mm and #2 the cowl narrows as it gets towards the front and the cylinders on the 325 hits the wall before you get the correct distance from the firewall. Went with the G62.

hey Jim, How did you resolve the air leak issues with the retracts? Mine continue leaking and I want to change to bigger o-rings what do you think

Have you taken them apart? If so replace the Orings that are leaking and champher the area were it assembles, oil everything very well and assemble. Check by airing up and submersing in water. Repeat as ness. If you want to call me just pm me and I will send my number.

Pneumatic systems need oil to lubricate o-rings (seals) for proper operation. I have to say that I am happy with my TBM retracts on my Zero. I used air tool oil on the valve and retract cylinders before installing. If this was part of the assembly procedures I don't think there would so many "Retract Issues"

I contacted TMB regarding the retracts and they said they have only had a a couple of problems reported to them on the retracts. Did you just inject some oil in the nipples of the cylinder to lube them? Thanks, Jerry.

that did the trick Jim> I replaced the O-rings with new ones a size larger on both ends of the cylinder.

i always lubricate my retracts when new as I did with the ones for the Zero. No amount of lube was going to stop that leak. I replaced the O-rings on both cylinders and problem solved

Just take a few minutes to check for leaks before you install and save a lot of headaces later. My retracts will hold air for days. Just trying to help.

About retracts, I also HAD problems. I agree with James, simply take 10-15 minutes to assemble all parts of the pneumaics systems and plunge it under water. I did and I imediatly saw where the 2 leaks where. I has to first lube all cylinder, that did the trick for a piston by-pass. I also had to change an o-ring on the cap of a main cylinder gear.
Now, my tanks keep full pressure for hours (only small leak of 10psi per day)

On another note, I did my maiden flight. Went great, i was very nervous, but landed perfectly.
Very thrilling full throttle with a DA-85 and a 22*16.

On my 4 flight i landed a bit too slow, hehe I was pushing the slow speed limit too much and on touch down i broke my left wheel axle. The axle snaped right where the threads enter the gear. I think this is a weak designed axle, it should have bigger thread end or be in a bit softer material to permit some bending. No other damages occured but a cracked prop. I will contact tbm to see if i can get a new axle.

Conclusion, very impressive airplane. I like it very much. TMB did a great redesign of the original. The plug-in wings are super easy to live with.

Ohhh , i forgot to mention..... the suggested tail wheel servos are too weak if used with a solid direct linkage. I broke 2 servo, one Hitec hs65 and one HD-2213. The HD2213 was performing much better but after 3 flight some internal gears were broken.

I would suggest to install springs on both side of servo output to link to the wheel. Or do like CHAWKJIM and use nylon rod to connect the wheel lever to the rudder servo.

I broke a axel too, I found a socket head bolt that was the same size and cut the head off. Perfect match

Do you remember the specs of the screw. Was it something like M5x100mm threaded 25mm, so you thread in the leg and the remaining 75mm is used without head to spin the wheel ?

Now i just got to find a way to disloge the remaining broken axle in the leg without breaking the thread.

I will have to check the specs, I just matched one up. I used a cutoff wheel on a dremel to make a slot in the broken axel and screwed it out with a screwdriver.

Would someone measure from the leading edge of the center section to the tip of the rudder and the height of the rudder from the tail wheel?

How does the g-62 work vs the DA 85?

I am trying to see if the plane will fit in my MDX.
