easychuncki, your engine should stay as cool as a cucumber! I don't see a problem with it ever heating up, the set up should draw the hot air right out of the hole cut for the exhaust pipes, George..

The Quadra 75 handles the P-51 just fine. I found out, the P-51 won't go any faster if I'm at full power or half power. Now I don't want it to fly like a Reno racer. I'm using a Master Airscrew wood prop of 24"X12º pitch. If I use full power on take off, the plane will be airborn in 20 feet unless I hold it on the ground. I go to full power if I want to do a loop or split S. Now my loops are 200 to 300 feet in diameter. I have the flaps set up to 40º to land. I cut the power when the plane is in the down wind leg right in front of me. This lets the speed bleed off to a perfect landing. The top speed is around 65 to 75 MPH. With the top RPM of the motor at 5,100 RPM. This is a good speed for a plane this size and the sound from the prop is almost like a Rolls Royce. Very mellow and quite. Most prop noise is because the tips are going to fast. It is a real nice flying plane. A few guys in my club really like the way it lands. They say it lands like a Piper Cub. I don't use any Expo on any of my controls. I have the CG set up so when I move the elevator stick, the plane responds to every stick input. Very easy to land this way. Sven I get my Duplicolor surfaceing primer in one quart cans from Murry's Auto Parts supply, I would check with auto parts store or auto paint shops, I also get some laquer thinner as well since the primer is thick as molasses and needs to be thinned 50/50 to get it to a consistency to be able to brush on, George.

Sven your finding that the spray cans are a waste of time and money at this point, best bit is to find some thick surfacing primer in a can that is designed to fill blemishes and can be sanded, thin it and brush it on with a 1" wide brush, let it set overnite this stuff sands nice and fills all the dimples and holes, than sand it a little to start with 80 grit paper don't press to hard so to avide cutting into the fabric to much, than 100 grit and than about 200 grit paper, by the time you finish sanding you well have very little primer on the plane remaining, now go over and see if any area needs to be filled with Balsa lite filler or feathering filler in a tube and sand with nothing coarser than 200 grit paper from this point on, , when you get it to this point you can paint with a spray can or like I do at this point I spray the first coat of latex paint to see where the areas need a little more attention before appluing panel lines and revit details, George.

I went and looked today...all I could find was a gallon jug. I think that is too much.
And Boy I tell you....the primer shows every single flaw of the sheeting. It's amazing.
Now I know that I gonna have to sand the fuselage nice and smooth before I throw glass down.
Btw...I use 2.5oz glass.

Yeah I know Bert. Thats where I got my 2 cans from. And they have a 1 gallon jug for $45 !! With that I can paint 5 planes

Well George - the first two flights were a success yesterday! Man was I nervous! But I didn't attempt retracts or flaps, I just wanted to get around the pattern a few times. The weatherman said it would be sunny and 56, but it was cloudy all day, and people were waiting, so I decided to go for it, and I can't believe there was a cloudburst of rain right after I took off! I never even had a chance to practice low passes, or see how the plane responded when I got slow. So all in all, it was a success - but on my first flight, I needed about 8 clicks of up elevator, and some right rudder, after I did that, what a teddy bear. Next time: retracts, flaps, and inverted flight!

They better be pretty good magnets. A single cylinder gas burner shakes pretty good. I think that after the first fight if they stay on long enough for a takeoff you wil be searching for those pieces on your field.

I have got all my other projects for the season caught up. I just brought the last P-51 I built from storage in the garage down to my basement work area,. I am going to take the cowl off and look inside and see just what I have to do to mount a Quadra 100 engine in place of the RCS engine I pulled out few weeks back.

If your are asking about stablizer and wing incendence angle, each plane and plan are different, you would need to look at the plans for the particular plane, other than that it would be guesing setting incidence to zerro and test flying to see if it flys level, dives or climbs, and adjusting incidence.

This is what the firewall looks like with a big hole in the center for the previous rear carb engine, the reason I pulled the engine is that I found that the engine had to much kick back when trying to start, so I am back to my Quadra 100 for these birds.
I have enough space lenght wise so I am going to epoxy another 1/4" fresh firwall to what I have now and use wood block spacers between the firwall and engine.
I am using Tony Howard exhaust stacks, as you can see I have them vented directly into the engine compartment.

I am going with a new ply firewall on both side of the existing firewall to give me a smooth surface on the back as well,, this way I don't have to work around the existing hole when I install the four 1/4"-20 blind tee nuts on the back, that the 1/4" aluminum motor mount well screw into.
I have the back firewall ply being held tight with the screws which I well remove when the epoxy sets, than glue in the new front firewall ply.. after the front 1/4" ply sets I tack on wood spacers and drill a 2" hole to clear the starter spring.. I am not worried about the additional weight, it just means I can take out some of the lead ballast from the front.

I have two peieces of wood tacked on the firewall as spacers and a hole is drilled in the center for the spring stareter. I am using a 1/4" aluminum plate which well be drilled and counter sunk to use as a engine mount.

I am using a long drill to make mounting holes throught the firewall, than running a 1/4"-20x3" screws into the tee nut on the back of the firewall. With a yardstick pressed flat against the spinner plate it looks like I have about 1.5 degree right engine offset which is good and zero for up and down. The gap between the spinner and fuselage is filled in with 3/16" balsa, shaped and filled with filler for paint prep.

The engine install has gone smooth, the space between the spinner plate and fuselage front was to big for my liking, so it was filled with balsa and puttyed over, sanded and repainted with yellow enamel along with cowl bottom after plugging and making new cut outs into it, the bottom well be air brushed with matching silver next. You can see a good veiw of Tony Howards exhaust stack kit I uesd on the first photo.
