RE: Jemco Focke Wulf 190D-9
I currently have the following Jemco kits NIB to build: P51, Corsair, AT-6, P47, Hellcat, and Zero. I also have a PT-19 with the fuse done, waiting for some time to finish. Of course I also have the following Royal/Marutaka 40 size kits: Raiden, Rufe, and a custom laser cut full duplicate Rufe. Then I have Tettra 40 size kits: Shinden Kai and Cessna 182. A TF Cessna 182,a Aero Tech Sea Fury, and a Pilot Lake Buccaneer. All warbird kits will get retracts, most likely electrics. Just realized, have a Davis P47 almost all built up with flaps and full retracts/tail wheel.
Man, I got to get building.

Even back then Luke was knocking them out of the park on those finishes. Good luck with the FW190 motoman

OK The FW-190D is completed.
Let me know what you think.
I haven't weighed it since my scale seems to have vanished but it feels light.
I will let you know how the maiden goes.
Final specs:
OS 40 LA engine
Fixed gear
Futaba servos
Spektrun 6200 receiver
JR 9503 Transmitter

OK, I'm here to tell you that you made a rookie mistake, but it was a big one that could really hurt the performance and it looks really bad.
Looking at the leading edge on the plan I can kind of see how you wrongly interpreted it, what you didn't see is that the plans show the wing at the center section and it does have a SLIGHT flat spot that you would sand onto the leading edge after you sanded it into an airfoil shape so that it sits right in the fuselage. What you would do when building a scale plane is look at the full scale subject, Google images and you will see that the full scale does not have a block leading edge or wingtips. Jim designed this plane with a very accurate outline, you'll just have to trust me that you are wrong and he is not.
Like I said I built mine in HS, here are some other pictures where you can clearly see the wingtips and leading edge. All I can say to you is try and learn from this and don't stop building, we all had to start somewhere and we all make mistakes. As you gain experience those mistakes will hopefully be less and less and certainly far less obvious than this! I want a flight report, I am very curious as to how this will fly.

Well I can tell you your plans look a LOT better than mine. That may have also contributed to the way I built it.
I've asked around and some people think it shouldn't be TOO much of a problem. Fingers crossed, I'll maiden it the next decent weekend.....
Thanks for the honesty.

The Jemco FW 190 that I had as a kid and a few years ago flew great, but it would drop fast without tip stalling when the throttle was chopped to idle; drop really fast. It is easy to catch by applying some throttle and then chopping it a few feet above the ground and then flair. I think that the plane will have to be landed at high speed if it does fly with a flat leading edge. It looks like film covering is used on the wing. It would only take about three hours to pull the film, sand the leading edges round, taper the tips on the wing panels, and apply new covering. It is a cheap investment after putting so much work into the plane.

Thanks Brian, I am very pleased with it!!!
Plus it was a beautiful day so that was a bonus!
I'm still tempted to put a rounded leading edge on it to see how the flying characteristics change.
I will post the changes if / when I make them.

I just picked up one of these and was considering what to do about the retract situation I have never built a foam core wing before but was thinking a I beam set up for the mounts any tips out there for this.
thinking the med sized electrics would work for this size, I have a OS 46 laying around that seems like a good fit for this size plane
I like the looks of this kit and I got a good deal on it so I jumped from what I have seen it looks to be a fairly quick building but I def want to put some retracts on it

Hi everyone,
I am currently building this type of plane and unfortunately I broke the canopy. Does anybody know where I could find another one? Or is anybody would like to sell me this part of his plane?
Thanks

if you r unable to get a new one, look at the one u have. is it a single crack? you can crack stop it (drill a hole at the end of the crack) then but glue the peace's with formula 560 and a brace on the back side overlapping the crack by .125 in on both sides also attached with formula 560. then fill and sand out the outer surface and paint it. some times the crack stop and patch does not look that bad and I leave it that way.

Dug through my pile of kits and found that I have the means to help!
Plan is simple. I will make a plug with the one in my kit so I can make another. Wont be until after Christmas. Lots of things going on with my kids and grand kids.
Let me know if your still looking for one.
