Default Doss Stead P-51 Mustang

Hi,
I tried again but his phone is disconnected. Don't know what else to do to contact him. I know he was active at least up to '99, saw a picture of one of his model, not the '51, on a web page somewhere. I think if he was still interested, he would've gotten on the thread at some point.
Regards,
Jon

Alright, now I'm really worried... does *anyone* out there have a complete plan set than can verify what I should have, and can get me (or lend me) copies of the main gear drawings? PLEASE??

Is that all you have? If not, can you tell me what other sheets you have?

I'll PM you; yes, I'd like to take you up on that.

dionysusbacchus,

I would love to have a copy of those plans... it would be great to have the detail in learning how to setup this type of hinging... doors ect... The complete set of drawings would be fantastic in my resource library...

Interested in making a copy??? I will be glad to pay for it and shipping!

Rick,
Sorry guys, it would be cost prohibitive to copy those plans! The fuselage and wing prints are huge! I'm sure Kinko's would charge a $100 easy. You would be better off trying to find someone that wants to part with them.

Default Stead Mustang

A FYI for Mustang lovers in need of Gear. Ultra-Precision (the retract control valve people) has a beautiful set of Gear for the P-51. I say has... perhaps its had (?).. but he is worth contacting. They are for a large Mustang close to the 100 inch range. His design is unique in that the mechanism runs fore to aft instead of root to tip. This allows the retracts to be position in the scale location very close to the leading edge of the wing. His gear are very scale and were copied from the Full Size plane at Hamilton Ont.
He is worth contacting if your interested. Regards BobH.

dionysusbacchus,

I agree that having copies made at Kinkos would cost a fortune. When we copy plans locally we always take them to a blueprint reproduction company. THe cost is usually minimal and the quality is usually very good.

shindin,

Please contact me through e-mail [email protected], I would like to discuss getting a copy of the gear sheet from you.

How practical would it be to build a Stang from the Doss Stead plans? Is there a canopy (for example) available or any other accessories? I haven't seen any thing about his planes in years and I was just wondering.. Thanks BobH.

Doss was working on a 1/4 scale fiberglass fuse kit,but as to the progress on it I have no idea. I intend on building from the plans a 1/4 scale mustang,so as far as practicalibilty why not, just a little enginuity here and there for the canopy, retracts and gear which is all shown on the plans. Canopy form can be made from foam block and heated plastic,a little lathing for the gear and looking at the plans for the retract unit looks so simple. Mine however I would like to do all aluminum!

SonfaGun..an I thought that I was the only one in the world that had a set of these plans available to me. Well, about 16 or 17 yrs. ago I dropped out of R/C due to business pressure..now am back.

Seems that I missed a lot of great Giant Scale Stuff. Especially the Mustang Wars tween all the biggies in the hobby like Platt, Ziroli and etc. etc...

Wow! now I find a great set of Plans and find that it's the one that I can build, live with..and be even just be happy to hang it up and look at it..my gosh done in Flite Metal and with better than Robart retracts..what more do I want?

Maybe just someone to Laser Cut this GS. P51D..Now the retracts are somethan else. The previous URL mentioned says they can custom make a set for the bird but don't show me what I need to know.

Maybe a group buy would stimulate the cutters and the retract folks and etc.

I donkno..!

One comes to mind that is on the universe quite often..Laser Lizard.. who is going to burn some parts for me. ( when I get in gear and draw up my ribs for the 74 in. Pitts S2A .. that's taking up space in the shop.) heheh.. don't know if he will like the term "burn" or not. [email protected] is the addy.. first name "Jesse"

Please, feel free to email him and ask for the going rate if your of a mind to. Would be of interest to the group I'm sure. Got more than I can handle right now.. Workin on a TF P51D and the Pitts at the same time. My Super Duellist 2/60 is still in the box under the bed for now while the engines are being run in.

Keep em Flying
Cheers
