RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
Goose,
is the canopy the stock one?
I used the Top Flite corsair cockpit and it fit almost perfectly. I then had a heel of time finding a 10" Star Trek figure to 'squeeze' in, and Imean squeeze!!!! It is supposed to be a perfect 6 or 6ft, 2in scale pilot.
I then got the wonderful wife to make me a jacket & 'cap' for the pilot...

Hey Dang...
Yep its the stock one, cut up and framed for sliding operation. It does seem a little big and buddy is a little small hence the appearance.
The mistake I made was to cut it before sticking it on, so the angle of the open frame is wrong... I'll figure something out.
Cheers...

Not being lazy, I have spent the last couple of days building a vacuum box to vac-form my wingtip light covers.
Box is done just waiting for the 20 thou PET-G plastic to come in.
Hope to have it in some kind of condition to show off at the club meeting next Tuesday including running the sound system up
Cheers

RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
So I got it finished enough to take to the club meeting and it was a hit
The PET-G finally came in (local company fiasco) and I tried the vacuum box for the first time tonight. It worked very well.
Dubbed 'suck box v1', it sure ain't pretty and the shop vac has limited vacuum power but it worked nonetheless as you can see from my long awaited wingtip light covers.
I will post a couple more pictures tomorrow and that will be pretty much it until spring when it is taken out for a maiden flight. I guess the thread isn't officially done till it flys
There will be a return of a particular project to the bench along with a possible intermediate project to ready for spring, god and cash willing.
Cheers for watching, your comments and encouragement and have a great christmas.

Hey Dangaras...
Hell yes! Man time flies...
I've been busy with all kinds of projects, mostly aircraft which is good and yes a little on the Corsair.
All I have left to do is finalise the electronics and it's ready to go. Now if you remember the wing loading is ridiculous on this plane and another club has offered their tarmac runway for the test flight given that I will need as much flying speed as possible before taking to the sky. This is scheduled for the spring now that the damn snow is here.
I have three options:
1. Hangar queen
2. Take the sound system out of it and fly it with a slightly less silly wing loading before putting it all back in, or
3. Just fly it.
Option 3 is winning right now and I'm going to be sure to get pics and video because I really don't expect it to last more than one flight
Anyways, hope all is good with you and yours dude...

Ah, shes still alive then. Well I have repaired mine a couple of times due to retract failures. However she flies like a dream.
Good luck to you in the new year then.

Of all the flights I had with the previous Corsair, the gear never failed once. Although it's expensive, replacing the retracts with 'real' retracts is certainly worth it in the long run.

I agree. I was using RCLander e-retracts and they would stick, usually retracted. Belly landings were rough on the wings so lots of repairs... Really pi$$ed me off. I used a set of $25 large size rotating retracts from pw-rc.com while the rclanders were repaired for the 6th time and had no failures with them...

The snow is melting away as we speak.
I have a few things to get it ready for the flight (singular) and will be flying it in spring.
Cheers

Sim! Hows it going mate, long time no hear. You must have had an awesome summer to have disappeared!
I hope so too for the weather... the snow is almost gone and temperatures are creeping above zero! Luxury!
Building the P51 furiously right now, but the F4U is definitely flying this season. Honestly I don't expect it to fly more than one flight due to the ridiculous wing loading but that makes it even more exciting!
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it is just too small for this setup.
There will be lots of pictures and possibly video so all those with bets in the club can win or lose their money.
Cheers!

So as with most threads on RCU, most of these build threads finish with a successful flight video or two or, as in this case, not such a great flight
I'll let the following videos speak for themselves
Thanks to all who have followed along and contributed to the thread, it's been a blast!
Cheers!

Aghhhhhhh. That sucks! However, it behaves very much like all of mine have! Just an all rouund terrible performing model. I am very disappointed in the outcome but sure was a nice build...

That's a heart breaker Goose. Almost makes me afraid to start my kit. I'll be very careful to obey the physics.
Is it salvageable as a static model?

My previous 'mostly out of the box' one flew really well but weighed in at around 10lbs Dangaras.
I was happy with the finished plane Aghost
Do it Fence, it flies well kept light. Nope, the fuselage is hanging on the wall of shame and the wings will be ceremoniously burnt on January 1, 2014 at our field to a) keep warm and b) appease the weather gods for the coming season
Cheers!
