Hi I have the same kit. At the moment it is built up to the glass stage and dropped off at my friends place for final work ( fit cowl to the plane witch is too small, install dle 170cc engine, I also have a Moki 215cc that I might install not decided on witch one yet. Get all hatches, servos ect. I would like to know if you had a chance to maiden and how it flew. I would also like to know how much this plane usually weighs. I hope mine does not go over 60 pounds.
thanks.
thanks.

Yes I did get it up in the air. It's easy to fly. On landing, it got aittle slow and dropped the right wing a few feet of the runway ripping out the gear. The wing held up good. So back to the workbench and and epoxyed in new hardfwood rails but this time I also screwed them into the supporting structure.
I borrowed an outstanding CG checker from our club president and found the CG about two inches to far back. I guess the old two finger method just doesn't work very well.
Mine weighed in at 55 lbs but in order to move the CG forward a couple of inches another five pounds of lead was added to the nose of the cowl. Now it weights 60 lbs.
The biggest problem I see with this plane is in the gear design. There just isn't alot of meat near the leading edge for the rail to hang onto. And with that long gear strut that isn't canted forward very much, it can be a challange to keep the gear in this plane in anything but a perfect landing. Our field is also alittle on the rough side but is getting better each year.
I should be back out at the field this week-end to try it again. I'm thinking that if this doesn't go well then I'll bag this project and sell off the retracts and possibly the Moki.
Will try to get some video.

Thanks for the quick reply. these big planes really want to land light on the wheels otherwise very easy to pull out the gear been there many times.
I was hoping for not more than 60 lb but if yours is at that weight with no elevator servos on your stab I will definitely have to add a pound or two to the nose seeing that I chose to install my elevator servos on the stab. It would be nice to see a vid of your flight for inspiration. Hope you get her up soon.

Hi Tony,
I just acquired a 113" Vailly FW190 that weighs 70lbs with a DA150 up front, and the previous builder/owner said the plane, even at a portly 70 lbs, is still a floater when landing. I personally like heavy (not to extreme) warbirds because its relativly easy to control the planes decent on final to landing by finding the throttle setting sweet spot, and there's less tendancy to get that nasty bounce that launches the plane back in the air during the rollout.
Dave, I'll be watching your progress as I'm currently replacing batteries and fuel lines (clunk line) before thinking about flying mine.

The owner ended up uninstalling the Moki and left the airframe sitting around gathering dust so I bought it back :-)
I'm going to install a DLE 170 in the Nose. I'm currently building a shop in my new house and should be starting on this in a few weeks.
Will be flying again by spring. Can't wait!!!!!

Well, it's now 2/2017 and I was wondering what's going on with this build? I'm ready to buy a 'kit' of the 113" from a seller in Britain, Belair, because Roy turned over all his plans to Ziroli but not the 113" version.
I built the 90" version around 15 years ago and I liked it very much.

I switched it to over to Rcscalebuilder as this this had issues at the time with posting pics, etc.

If you don't have an account there you will have to create one to see it.
Currently I just need to rivet the fuselage and right wing. Then paint them. I'll finish it this summer after my Don Smith F7F is completed.
I think I'm kind of afraid of finishing it and possible crashing it. I love looking at in my shop!!!! it does fly great!
The Vailly 113" is just a blowup of his smaller one. You can get them scanned and reprinted at the larger scale. Don't know if you can get the cowl and canopy.
You might want to consider the 190 available at Fokkerrc.com. His his 103" I'm thinking of building this one as I do like the 190. Lots of great palette choises also.

Yes, I'm a member over at rcscalebuilder. I saw your thread there too. I can make the cowl, canopy and landing gear myself, but they do have them (Belair in U.K.). I was particularly concerned with your landing gear problem regarding the wing. It still has me concerned.
That's a nice plane at fokker.com but too small for my immediate need. I have a Da 150 that needs a new home.
