RE: FW 190D Kits?????
Gree, I think you'll get a prompt, to the point reply usually from Bob. You may need to supply some wood like wing sheeting and some leading edge and firewall material and such, but it doesn't amount to much in $. For a cockpit you can try Dynamic Balsa or INZpan ($$ but awesome). Guns you can get from either Platt or IMP I think (if Bob doesn't have them already). The guns add a lot. I've got them in three of mine. They're cool, but you'll be left with finding out of the way locations for switches and valves and stuff since most guys seem to put them under the gun hood if they don't put guns in there. Wheels you can get from Williams Brothers....5 1/4" smooth contour jobs. Retracts from a few different sources....Robart, Sierra, Shindin, Spring Air, Gene Barton. Spinner you can get from Holman or Barton. You won't be disappointed on what you get from any of the supplies or suppliers probably. The kit is a good bargain for the quality it is. The Holman 190D is a great flyer. Probably will weigh in around 23lbs scaled out pretty well. Doesn't need much, if any nose weight to balance it either.

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
Great stuff Wulf. Thanks very much. I have to see if this friend of mine would be wiling to cart all of this stuff back once he realises how big the box may be!
I'll wait and see how Bob replies. Again thanks very much. You'd be surprised how tricky it can be to get accurate information about the availability of kits etc. Especially here where hobby stores don't carry a huge range of these types of products.
I'll definitely be going electric with this one, so that conversion will be a bit of a challenge but not too bad I'm sure. Wonder how that'll effect balance. ANyone done an electric conversion on of these kits?

Wulf, Thanks. Let me know what I owe you for the sites.
He still sell the kit but he has many people working on each part. I've called several times in the past for another wing and he didn't have them ready do to the person he uses to cut the wings at that time but many times he's had the whole kit just sitting. Always when I'm broke
As for the spinner... Here is who he will send you to for this. He only takes MO. No paypal or such.
He has these in 5 1/4"dia, and 5 1/2" dia. They both run $55.00 plus $6.00 to ship in the U.S. If you want one contact him here.

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
He quoted me $450. I am going to grab one. I found out I can get it brought to Australia for only $100 with a friend traveling back on an airline. Excellent!

The Holman D-9 comes in a HUGE box. Be ready for some extra shipping charges.
Electric may be the way to go. You can stuff all of the batteries up front, in the fuel tank area.
Although my D-9 did not require nose weight, I have a B&B G-38 up front, hooked up to a heavy copper scale exhaust system. All of this stuff is ahead of the CG, of course.

Yup! I have a kit reserved with Bob, and as soon as my traveling friend confirms the date and address of his travel in the US, I will be completing the order. Exciting!

Do you remember how large? He told me 61" x 16" x 16" - does this sound right?

That's close to my box measurements, which are 58"X14"X19 3/4". I'm using it as a table in my den. LOL

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
I too would like to know what gear people are using etc. And a build thread would be great. Google doesn't reveal much about this plane. I'll be ordering mine soon too!

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
I have Sierra gear going in #2 as the wing is foam but I used the wing from Brian taylor (blown up to size) plans for one to be built now. I'm useing Shindin retracts for it as the wing is wood and they'll drop right in.
Power to be a Moki 210 with pitts muffler and the radial mount. I'll have a DL50 in the next since I have one just sitting.

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
Don, Good for you! You'll be happy. Here's the rundown on gear... The Dora and Black 7 in the above pics are both powered by an OS BGX, have Barton retractswhich I think very highly of considering their longevity and reliability. Sierra offers a great set as well. I have Shindin gear in the A version that I'm building now, as well as my IMP 1/5 Dora. White 3 in the above pics has CJM gear, and is powered by a Zenoah G62, alot of engine for the bird, but nice to have extra powerit can be completely hidden mounted at about the 7 o'clock position on the engine head. The BGX is stretched in the 190A unless you keep the tail end light (i.e. fixed tailwheel, light wheel, etc.). Nose weight can add up on a lighter engine here. I have a 45cc CRRC gasser in the A version I'm building now. I'm pretty sure the spinners are 4", nice thick machined backplate at a good price. Cockpits are from Dynamic Balsa. Wheels you can get from Glennis for a great set or Williams brothers 5.25" with some hub mods to make them look better. The faux down link mechanism on the oleos can be made easily per the plans, and can eliminate the need to buy retracts with a functioning down link if you so desire....the one on the plan just slides up into the well when the gear go up...nifty working things that I have on three of them.

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
There are old build threads for the Holman/Lien D-9 on RCSB. Look for one by Puff Daddy, the other is mine.
My first Dora has a G-38 and Robart retracts. The retracts are for the Vaillet FW, and the legs were modified to fit.
My next Dora will be powered by a Moki 210, and have Shinden retracts.
Puff Daddy's Dora has a Moki 210, and Century jet retacts.

RE: FW 190D Kits?????
Good luck on the build Don. I have the old builders manual that used to be included in the Lein/Holman kit. If you need it (I don't think it comes with the kits now) just lmk and I can scan and email it to you. The only kind of tricky part is cutting out for the retracts and mounting them. There's not much extra room to get the wheels tucked up in the wells, so just take your time on those parts and don't be afraid to ask if you need to. I've installed several sets of different 190 gear now. Happy to save you any head scratching or provide some measurements for you when it comes time. The angle and location of your gear mount plate will depend on which gear you decide to go with. You'll feel like a better builder after getting the foam wing experience under the belt. Fear not. I love the foam cored wings on the thing. It just dictates that a certain sequence be followed in your building steps. You'll need the landing gear right away to build the wing. Laying out the cutouts is one of the first thing to be done.
