Default Holding mufflers on your engine?

I have a DA-50 with the bennett box muffler. What simple tips/secrets do you master builders have on keeping those bolts tight?

You should'nt have a problem with them coming loose, if you do try alittle high-temp silicone as a thread locker. I did'nt know bennet made a muffler for DA motors.

First ditch the gasket. Apply a bead of Ultracopper Permatex or High Temp Silicone gasket maker from Permatex (the dark red stuff). Make sure to cover all of the manifold mating surface. Then tighten the screws hand tight until the gasket material dries. After that you can tighten the bolts all the way. Either use a lock washer or red locktite on the bolts and you're good to go.

I would suggest the blue locktite as the red usualy takes a propane torch to cut loose in the event that you need to remove the bolts at a later time.

Good advice not to use a common gasket - the high temperature silicone works just fine.

However NEVER EVER USE LOCTITE OF ANY KIND ON ENGINE BOLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later on the removing of the muffler can and will be in most case a nightmare. If the muffler is not supported by an extra bracket you need to check the bolts periodically.

The procedure to apply the silicone is very simple, put a beat on the cylinder - put the bolts in the muffler all the way: insert a allen wrench start the bolts evenly and tight them up also evenly left and right.

No need for complicated instructions - beat, screw tight
