RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Knees shake no more boys!!!!
She flys, and may I add she flys like a thoroughbred shouldbeautifully and on rails!!!!!!
First lets add in my setup
Electric
Eflite-Power 110
ICE 100 amp ESC
2X 4s flightmax 4000 mah lipos
DS-821 servos around
JR 791 Servos on the retracts
Go-slo 3 on the flaps.
15.5 X 12 APC 4 blade in a truturn custom cut 4 1/4" spinner
6v 1600 mah reciever battery
4.8v 750 mah retract battery
Dx-7 Ar7000
Some add ons
Tony Howard Exhaust
Robart wheels, great planes tailwheel
Gear rebuilt with silver solder and robart 650 strut parts
5/8 oz wing tip weight to counteract snap.
Callie Graphic decals for my uncles plane.
AUW 12.1 lbs[X(]
Ok Guys well as said before today was the big daygot to the field and first put up my alfa mustang( see pic) to get the feel of my thumbs back and did some low level passes. Then it was time to make her sing.
I lined her up into the wind and slowly advanced the throttle she had a perfect roll out and I she basically took off on her own, i barely touched the elvator to have a good steady climb out. After a tad i fed in just a bit of left rudder and aileron starting my first turn and then sucked up the gear. First thing i noticed, like all mustangs I've flown, she wanted to climb big time under power-about 5 clicks of elevator trim was needed to get her to fly hands off.
Next thing was slow speed handling, i got her up three mstakes high and slowly bled off speed while dropping the flaps and holding back on the elevator. She just mushed on ahead a with nothing violent. i slowly ramped up the speed while bringing the flaps back upthe go slo prevented all forms of ballooning from the flaps.
Next I made a few higher speed passes and she flys amazing. Like a true warbird rudder is need to make turns look correct flat. She'll knife edge pass with great rudder autority and just steals the show doing so.
After 5 minutes i brought her around for approach. Dropped the gear on the pass in front of me and made the first turn and began to drop the flaps while coming into the turn for final. She slowed down beautifully and was very easy to control with rudder and throttle down to the deck. Now some pilot error here my landing was a slight bouncer causing her to come to reast on the tip of her nose after roll out-my swill improve with practice! Needless to say i am beyond happy and after a year of working on this project it was worth it in the end.
Some back history the plane is modeled after my Uncles airplane, he was shot down and killed 3 days before the end of the war. When I picked up RC i said i would make his plane when i got good enough to handle her. This model is my tribute and memorial to him and it only seemed fitting to maiden her today.
Happy Memorial Day Uncle Russel!
And a big thank you to all gents here for the help, and a happy Memorial day to your families.
Mike

Hi kurrikan;
I did not take out the up elevator I was using during the taxi out to the runway. So when I add power for takeoff, I had max up elevator on the plane and she became airborne before it had enough speed. She snap hard left and then hard right and into the ground. In the picture you can see the outcome. The wings are still good, but the fuse is gone.
As you know, we crash and we rebuild!!! So when they come back in-stock I will have another one. One good thing, I have more plane to have fun with, so this weekend I will take out my Top Flite AT-6 Texan and have some fun!!! I need more warbirds!!! Do you have a Top Flite AT-6 Texan in your hangar?? They are a joy to fly!!!
I will stay tune for your flight report this weekend!!!
God speed my friend!!!

Hi guys.
I was wondering if anyone installed the engine side ways (not inverted). I got a Saito 125a ready to be installed but not sure if I will follow the H9 manual.

all the best with the test flight, I like mine, they are very nice to fly, be gentle on the elevators, they don't like very much throw. I really like the extra work you have done on yours.
also congratulations to 800mZero, as you say, nice to fly, but I like to be able to hear them.
cheers, Oldtimer.

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
thanks 800mzero but nerves sometimes betray you
not my first plane of war but I still get the same nerves that as a beginner, try to do a mental check of everything, and everything is correct, it's time to fly
the Mustang was born to fly and it will do ....(i hope)

Hi guys, I was looking for the wing reinforcement landing gear part, I remember that some where at the begining and I can not find it. Pit Viper or BradyB Rodan AZ had a rough landing and snapped the langing. I want to look at the pictures with Carbin fiber reinforcement. I remember that muct ...but I can't find them.
Thank You
Adrian

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Sonny, never like to see that sort of first time or anytime for that matter.
It seems this plane has in a sense been demonized. There's been a lot of hype all around about the way it flies and handles. I think after flying one myself that they are not any different to fly than my Corsair. Same short wheel stance due to the tail wheel location, requiring light touches on the stick during take off. I remedied this by moving the control linkage to the inner most hole on the servo and the outer most on the on the wheel. Neither plane seemed to require much rudder during flight. In the air both fly fast and responsive to input and require some speed upon landing.
I think nerves seem to get a hold of a lot people going to maiden this plane. Just be sure the CG is correct, batteries are charged and your flight surfaces all move in the right direction. After that give it a long run out and then treat it like your favorite plane once you get it airborne and trimmed. I was taught that you should be able to get it trimmed on the first lap. If not then it should be landed and mechanically adjusted so it can be. After the first lap take it up and treat it like it has 30 flights on it. Then at 5 minutes land, if you forgot to tighten something or anything else should be wrong this will allow just enough time for you to find it before disaster strike. Give it a thorough twice over with screwdriver and CA in hand and you should be golden.
This is the maiden of the Corsair flown as hard as I always fly. Result, 2 clicks down elev., loose LG causing it to flip (can be seen as it lies upside down) and loose exhaust.

Yeah it would be nice to hear a little bit morebut I'll take the electric sound, and battery charge wait over the clean up, vibrations, leakage, constant tinkering, and ground equpipment any day.

Thank You for the tip, i remember that some else did same thing , some where at begining of thid thread.
what size of drill and carbon fiber you used?
I will have to do real reinforcement since I install ...scale landing doors and I had to do sime...room. Now I have to think how to strenghten the wing and Landing support.
Thank you
Adrian

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Well the weak wing applies to the 1/5 H9 P-51 as well. This was a buddies P-51 with a new wing on an old plane. Coming out of a loop, the wing failed just as it was going flat and level. The Fuji64 didn't survive either. There quality seems to be really going down hill the last year or so. The old wing has over 100 flights on it and is just getting some minor TLC. Not sure I'll buy any more H9 products after seeing this. It was lack of glue and materials from the end of the wing joiner through the gear bay. Sound familiar anyone??..
