Mine needs some minor repair from damage incurred during transport but will be up and flying again some time this summer. I'm probably pushing 100 flights on it now and enjoy flying it very much except for having to repair the wing tips rather regularly!

My AT-6 ready to go, we will see what happens this weekend.
NGH 38cc four stroke Gas engine, Robarts with electric convertion, 16.5lbs, painted with Warbird paints. CG at 5.5" back from leading edge (based on this forums opinions, hope you are right !!) not the front of the wheel well, the front of wing leading edge.
Wish me luck

I picked up a new in the box with retracts and wondering how much more weight is added when using flite metal? I am going to use a valley view 40 twin in mine this winter and either cover it in flite metal or go wild and make a replica aeroshell with smoke. Oshkosh is coming up in a couple weeks and always enjoy watching those guys smoke up the sky.
Steve, good luck on the maiden and thinking 16 lbs is fairly light for the plane? hopefully you get a video of the flight.

Kork,
The VV40 should be a good match for this plane. Post some picture of the engine on the plane if you go that way. I was thinking about doing the Aeroshell theme on my next at6. Love AirVenture been there twice and planing to go back next year.

Maiden went great, only two clicks on elevator and she was trimmed, the CG was perfect at 5.5 back from leading edge. Man, this thing floats on and on, my NGH 38cc 4 stroke gas engine was perfect for the plane, had a good turn of speed and sounded great. I had the idle too high (engine sounds slow but being a 4 stark isn't. Will need some head wind to allow slow landings. Robart electric retracts worked great. All in all very successful.
re post above, 40cc 2 stroke would be overpowered and I assume would not fit in cowl anyway so wouldn't look good.
if you want a cheap ( but fair to say low quality) gas 4 stroke, the NGH 38 is great, if doing it again today, I would look at the new OS four stroke gassers, the 40 cc or the just released 30 cc

Steve, how is the prop clearance and What size are you running? What is your thought on flaps, would they be hard to add? My top flight had split flaps but I understand some added them.
Did the boys at 'down and locked' convert your retracts or did you get them from Robart?
I checked on this vvrc 40 and it will fit in the cowl.

To all you midwest at6 owners, I was recently given this air frame(as near as I can tell it is a midwest kit) and it needs a little tlc. I need a canopy, cowl, robart struts, servos recommended, and gas engine rrecommended. Also I think I am going to go with the aeroshell team paint scheme, does anyone know where I can find stickers, etc. Thank you in advance for your help. I will post a pic soon.

canopy is going to be the hard one. fiberglass specialties i believe makes a cowl , servos .. anything above standard is ok. i have one that i believe to have close to 700 flights. i'm thinking much more but i'm trying to be conservative. here's a video from five years ago . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1KIbzL88ho . i've used a g-23 in mine with great power while keeping it lite. Thank you warbird1 and smkrcflyer, I will post some pics but it is going to take me a while as I don't have a lot of extra time. My 8 year old son is very pumped about this so maybe with his help we can get it done! :-)

I have a new Mid West Cowl and wing fairing (I used the fiberglass specialties items on mine) and I have a Mid West Canopy (I used the Mid West one on mine).
If interested they would be $20 each + shipping.
If the kit isn't built yet, check that you have the long ply piece that goes all the way from the rear to the bulkhead, mine was missing from my kit and others have had the same issue, I had to get a template from another RCU user nd cut it out, very time consuming and pretty difficult.
servos on this plane can be standard 50oz units, I personally use Futaba 70oz digital but that is not really required.
Mine has an NGH 38cc Gas four stroke and it flys very well on that and sounds great.

Thank you stevelesl, the kit is already built just needs some tlc. I have quite a few standard servos so I will probably just use those. As for the canopy and cowl, is there any advantage using fiberglass specialities over midwest?

The Fiberglass specialties canopy is very similar to the MW one, I used the MW one and have the FS one unused, the FG specialties cowl is a fiberglass item, the MW one (the one I have) is a molded plastic one, it is pretty strong though and would work well.
On your tail wheel question, any wheel @ 1" or so will work fine.
Let me know if you are interested in the cowl and canopy I have.

Is there an issue with the Fiberglass Specialties canopy that I should be aware of?
