Who makes custom canopies and cowls?
I am in the need for a custom size cowl and canopy for a future project and wondered who makes and sells them per special order. Can anybody help me?

NCIS, maybe Fiberglass Specialties or Stan's Fiberglas Parts can help with a cowl, don't know who might do canopies........

I hit your other post too but, Jeff Quesenberry on rcwarbirds.com built a giant corsair. You might want to check with him. Here's a link http://www.rcwarbirds.com/Projects/Jeff's%20Corsair/project4.htm . It had a 13' ws, 1/3 scale. Used a husky 240 twin. If I recall, I think it died in a mid air with a giant zero.
I just read the last page at the bottom that states the cowl came from Bob Sealy and the canopy came from Matt Miller.

Edwin,
Jeff is the one blowing up my plans and I found someone that has a mold for a blown up 33.3% Ziroli Corsair.
Thanks anyway,

I am not sure any one will make a single canopy and cowl. There is a lot of time involved making a buck for a mold or to pull a canopy and accurate dimensions are critical. Never are that hard to do yourself and there are many builds on RSCB that show the process.

RE: Who makes custom canopies and cowls?
Hi there
Don't know if you're still looking but my husband makes canopies and cowls in any scale (within reason!) He has a cnc router and can draw up shapes with a 3D drawing program. I do the 2D stuff - cutting parts/kits from plans in any scale.
Attached are a few pics of the process from the computer drawing of a cowl for a 134" electric Lancaster in the pipe line, the plug and finshed cowl plus the canopy with side blisters from plug to vacuum formed. Also a finished cowl for a 1/5th scale CAC Boomerang. Both these projects are going to be fully moulded composites. Lengthy process but worth it with the detail that can be achieved this way with computer modelling and cnc cutting.
Anyway, if we can help, give a yell
cheers

Patti,
Thank you for the reply. If I can't use the canopy I had for my Don Smith 1/4 scale Corsair I'll definitely get in touch with you. Could you PM me your phone number so I can discuss my project with you or your husband. What I'm doing is blowing up Ziroli Corsair plans 33.3% so the wing span will be 124" The Don Smith was 120". So the canopy may work and then maybe it won't. I already have the generous builder that built one of these that kept his mold for the cowl so I'm set there but may need a canopy. Mine is custom made in the UK by Graham Buchanan who owns Tiger Models and I wonder if your husband could duplicate it. It has an aluminum frame that has simulated rivets stamped into it and it is for the F4U-5N with the raised spine behind the pilots head for more headroom. Here are a couple pictures of it. One along side the Don Smith canopy and one after I split it for the sliding canopy to work. As you can see it is bigger already so I'm hoping it will fit. In the second picture you can see the simulated rivets.

RE: Who makes custom canopies and cowls?
Hi Barry
Sounds like you're half way there, hopefully the canopy will fit but there's no problem if you need a copy made. Richard is making molds with rivet and panel line detail - check out the Lanc site if you're interested http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_80..._5/key_/tm.htm
He's also going to build a 1/6th scale Brian Taylor F4U-5 - the French one. That'll be fully molded. Here's a youtube link to his current Corsair (conventional build) in flight. All electric.
Happy building
cheers
