Currently working 3 planes. Got the B model Nosen Mustang in primer and stored off to the side. Currently finishing up to glass my Z-P47 (wing glassed, fuse glass this weekend). Plan is to get that P-47 in glass and store off to side. 01JAN14, I will get back on the big Corsair and work wholly on it until it is finished. Keep watching. It will be a busy Srping painting season. Thx

I built a 120 inch version of the Ziroli P40 in 2001. Still flying around; a great plane. Sold it to a friend a few years back.

OK, now that the Ki-45 has successfully maidened, it is time to get back onto and fiinish up this Corsair. Fuse is all glassed, on to the wing. If you look back thru Barry's (this) thread, you will see he is using an aluminum spar/channel to capture the outer wing panel. While I think it will stand up, it seemed a bit thin to me, so I optedto add a stub/sub wing tube just to help support. You can see it here. I am now in the process of preparing to sheet the right outer wing panel. However, it appears there is not the washout Ziroli calls for, and with all the structure in place, I am not sure if I can get it in. I may have to first pop all the ribs/spas apart to realign. I will update once I know.

Now that the flying season is winding down, and most fly-ins, but a couple are done, I have begun to work on a couple projects. My 13 foot Vindicator (elevators built...its a start) and I'm back on the 124 inch Corsair.

After adding a wing tube, to suppIement the aluminum spade (which I don't think would be up to the task with a radial installed...no risk wanted here), I now have the right wing panel mostly sheeted and ready to finish up the flaps and ailerons. I mated it to the center section and it is a pretty nice fit. Barry did get the ribs nice and square at this joint. I now have to go back to the left panel and start all over and do the same there; starting with adding a wing tube. Here are a couple pictures of the right panel on the center section. You can see the glassed Corsair fuse hanging from the ceiling inhte background.

OK, the wing is now all sheeted and wing tubes installed. All I need to do is build upt he belly pan and add the leading edge and then shape it. Next, knock out the flaps and ailerons and I can glass the wing and maybe have it up on gear by next weekend. then I can add teh Evolution 260 radial

It has been a while since I posted here, but work still continues on the Corsair, in between the Vindicator build. The fuse is all glassed, as are all the flight controls. I have the belly pan sheeted and the oil cooler bays shaped. I have the flaps mostly done and am adding the leading edge to the wing and shaping now. I should have this and the vindicator glassed and on gear by end of month. Teh Corsair will get the Evolution 260 radial.

I now have the center section leading edge glued on and shaped. It is now on the table having been top side glassed.

For those stillinterestedin BArry's old Corsair:

After a lot of work to correct the outer wing panels,I now have the flaps fit and have all 3 pieces of the wing fitted together. The wing is now glassed, smoothed and ready for ready for panel lines and final primer, You can also see my psuedo scale attempt at the oil cooler/supercharger inlets.

Looking good Jeff.
Between this and the Vindicator you are working on when do you find time to sleep?

There is nothing really good on TV anymore..makes for good shop time. Although I did enjoy the 3 days of Sons of Liberty and slacked off in front of the TV those 3 nights

Just put a TV in yer hobby room...kills two birds with one stone! I keep discs of Babylon 5 or some other epic series ready for when there's nothing else worthy on. See, that way I've got no excuse!

Already got that, but they changed our cable to HD boxes and we only get 2 boxes free of charge. Cable is not good nuff to pay for 3rd box in garage, so I watch VHS, DVD and listen to CD's in the garage. In fact, working on the Corsair today, I watched a great DVD of the Doolittle reunion that a good friend of mine taped for me.

Who loves ya baby! On a more somber note, we just lost another Raider. Only two left now. http://www.warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/wwii-events/memory-lt-col-edward-j-saylor-doolittle-tokyo-raider.html

Yeah, they're going soooo fast. We just lost Jack Wilhite a couple of days ago. He was .the pilot who flew that red and blue Mig 17 over the local events here in CO. He gave a wonderful talk at one of our club meetings a short while back. Amazing stories. Not much time left to honor these guys. I just heard a rumor that the Raiders will be awarded the Medal of Honor...about time. They all earned it! By the way, how's that big Corsair of Phil's doing? HEY BOYINGTON....!!!!

An update:

I threw away the cowl that Barry had made. It was just shaped all wrong and too heavy. I woulda had a helluva time trying to keep it fastened to the fuse with vibration. I am going with a Jerry Bates 115 inch Seafury cowl. Once I cut inb the cowl flaps, it will look the part. The fise is all panel lined and in primer. I hope to have it all painted by the end of the year. I will post a pic on its gear. Then, I will have to figure out a powerplant. With the new cowl, I am hoping to be able to get the 260 radial in there....we shall see. I will need to build a motor mount and get the cowl all dressed up and painted. My buddy Phil installed the Dynamic cockpit kit for me, in exchange for me building his 115 inch Seafury wing. That was a nice trade on labor. The COrsair will definitely maiden this coming summer....would like to take it to the C.A.R.D.S. event in Michigan in June. Stay tuned.

Nice to hear that you are still making progress, Jeff.

If you go to the Lansing event, I may be tempted to head down there and say "Hi".

Cockpit and pilot installed, plane now in all primer and in the process of mounting the cowl. Here I have the motor mount all installed for the Evolution 7-260 radial that came out of my Vindicator.

It will be great to see this completed. Barry had such passion for this project. Good job Tom.
