Who Went To Bomber Field June 6 - 7?
June 6th and 7th is the 2009Bomber Field War Bird Fly-In for any size and type of warbird from any era of flight.
Who's coming and what are you bringing. I readButch S's post saying thehugeB1B will be in attendence.
Who and what else is coming?

Looks like the usual suspects... Looking forward to seeing B1B and perhaps a few other surprises. Keep piling onfaces and planes you are bringing. Weather is a big 10 on the 1 to 10 scale! Going toenjoylow humidity and a breeze. Yes a gentle one from the North end of the700'newly repaved runway. No, mo, unevenblack stuff...its actually got a domed centerline to keep the heavy dew from collecting.
Ok, who and what else?

ORIGINAL: c550 Does anyone have saturday's results?
Bomber Field's WarBird is a mix of any size aircraft used in combat between 1910 and9:00 am this morning.
That said...this was an exceptionally good year for quantity and quality of participants aka competitors for the
awards. The awards are plaques given for best of....from the attendees flying an aircraft froma specific time
frame/period.
Our guest (from other AMA clubs)judgesworked "all day" observing initialflights of everyone to determine the
mostprototypical flight and which when observed up close and personal exemplified the best craftsmanship
of all those participating which were replicas of 1:1 aircraft from the same period(s).
You have to understand that in an actual scale contest there is "NO"comparison between models. This is to
say, in a real scale contest the contestant provides documentation with which judges compare the participant
model to. Documentation is from published sources and the participant's model is compared to "only" what a
participant provides a judge for comparison. Real scale contests do not compare one model to another.
So now that you understand the difference between an actual scale contest and the Bomber Field Fly-In...we'll
move on... : )
We really had a good spread of participants....a full range of quality models with many representative of what a
scale contest would have in attendence. It was rewarding to walk the line of models displayed on our runway
centerline and see spectators oohing and ahhing over an A-10 to F-82. It just can't get any better this side of an
actual scale contest.
More tomorrow.... : )

The event was great and we had a good time.
BIG THANK YOU to all involved in putting that event together. Lot's work I know that first hand. A few crashes but nobody was hurt (except their ego) - this is the best news. The only complaint what I heart of was the A-10 flu over the runway too close to the tents - they felt more or less the heat from turbines. Other then that everyone got good along with each other.
We will be back in September...that pretty much sums it up.
Good Job!!!

Click aerial photo to see another aerial view of Bomber Field:
L to R Lake/water "runway",r/cbattle field/town,utility buildings, motor home hookups, hangar,pavillian,coveredpit/observation deck,700' paved, 1,100' grass,& Westside 1:1 runway
Ended up with 68 pilots and a little over 100 planes. Weather was supurb with the wind on each end of the runway for the most part. The
B1B drew a large crowd. Butch and Paul entertained a lot of questions. I look forward to its completion and seeing it fly here. With 700
feet of freshlyrolled asphaltyou can expect to see more and morejet events at BomberField.
2.4 was used by 40% of the pilots. A little smaller percentage than inSeptember at the B-17 & Big Bird Fly-In. Two flight controlincidents
were witnessed. The BomberField frequency scanner's alarm never went off so they were consideredonboard issuesnot related to R/F.
The Tu-95 was not flown due to not enough time for BB to get the recently installed 2.4 system(s) plumbed in time. Considering the fact
he literally stayed at the field for the better part of two weeks with the new paving and landscaping there was little time left for modeling.
The Bear is anticipated to fly in September when Mac Hodges will return with the rebuiltgiant B-29.

Feedback from pilots and spactators alike was a welcome report. Every year we strive to provide a quality experience for everyone. I am
curious what attendees thought of ourkitchen menu quality, taste, and overall concessions. This is something that changed radically this year.
A core group of members took it on as something they thought could be achieved and I'm interested in your feedback.
We will be very focused on our vendor and manufacturer booths for the September B-17 (Bomber Gathering) and Big Bird event. If interested in
representing your company at this event you can contact me for further details or use the Bomber Field online vendor booth pre-registration on
the club web site... http://www.bomberfieldusa.com . Or click this button...
The button will link you to ouronlineinformation andpre-registration for vendor and r/c sales booths along the West side of the pit fence. These
have electricity available...
If you want to post pix in this thead...please do. I will be reposting images from various pilots and spectator sites displaying them... ; )
Keep pouring on the feedback ! ! !

Here is anothernot too often seen moment I caught with the camera. It is not nice to post crashes but this was not the pilots fault as it had to be a structural failure. Sittingunder our tent we hearda loud pop, I had just enough time to pick up the camera and get three photos just before the airframe hit the ground. As you can see the motor firewall and everything front of the wing broke loose in mid flight on this Zero.

Here are a couple of more pics you may find interesting, Again not the pilots fault, just a vicitm of circumstance. A touch and go with power on whichdidnt make it out of the sand.
The plane did make another flight after this.
