Hi!
I'm also building the Brian Taylor 83" Spitfire. I see that you are using a big 50cc engine, Brian Taylor used a 1.50 four stoke in his... Why such big heavy engine like a 50cc gas engine??? ...and you really sure that it will get enough cooling???

Another BT spit....wow I don’t mean to speak out of turn here, but the 50 will have plenty of cooling Vic of Vic R/C did it years ago with no problem. Why put the gas 50 in? Well for me it’s because I have been glow free for 2 years. You should start yourself a built thread. I always like to see what others are doing on a bird I am building.

Jaka, I would also say for the same reason. I haven't flown glow in almost 10 years now. (Also I'm a power junkie)

Please post some pix of your build.

The Moki 1.8 (30cc) in my BT Spitty gives great performance, that said Iam now leaning toward trying a Saito 200Ti simply for improved "sound effects".....

50cc ?? would be ok if your planning on Space Shuttle like departures and some 3D hovering I guess

Hey Jet, If your talking about a Glow engine remember I don't run glow anymore. I don't have access to glow fuel where I live. I'm not traveling 60 miles to buy glow fuel and it's to expensive to ship.

BTW my G-62 on my Mustang has spanked several of the Moki 60CCs on other mustangs.

Well Here's a little progress. still waiting on my order of supplies. So I decided to tackle the gear covers. Just a little bit of putty to blend in the blisters for the axle clearance and that's done.

BTW the zip ties are temporary

Hi, the Spit looks great. What retracts are you using, they look like Robarts? how as the fit.

Yes they are robarts. I don't know much about them. They where with the plane when I bought it.
However. I feel they will do the job and the fit was good.

OK today I worked on the cowling. I had to add some material back to fill in a big hole and make it fit and look better.

I also cut a 2" hole for air to enter the cowl. I put the letter H in the hole to camoflauge the hole. A lot of spitfires had a black circle with a white letter on the cowl so hopefully this will fool the eye. It sure doesn't fool the camera with a flash though. After I put in the baffle and paint it all black it will really look good then. NOTE: this "H" is only a temporary one. Just testing.

I will be (hopfully) venting the hot air out threw the wing. I didn't want to mess up the lower cowling anymore than nessesary, so I came up with this. There is a tunnel in the fuse to channel the air out. The outer holes will get lovers on them ( to help pull the air out) and the holes on the scoop will not have any.

With a good tight baffle it should get plenty of cooling air in (1) and plenty out (3x).

Still haven't dicided on an exhaust yet. (?)

I finally worked some more this weekend. I got the canopy mounted. I have to make the rear part of the canopy out of a 2 liter Pepsi bottle. It will get trimed with foil tape to make a "frame".

I will be using button head screws on most of the parts. The allen head servo screws hold up to the in and out of mockup better that the button heads do.

I have all the control surfaces hooked up, except the flaps. hope to get to that this week some time.

Also mounted the ignition switch. sorry no pics of that.

With 3 servos in the tail it is still going to be nose heavy.

17.11 lbs so far.

Not to be critical but I noticed the scissors of your struts are in the wrong direction. They should be pointed to the leading edge. Nice work and you can't go wrong with the 50cc, you will have one fast airplane with the weight she is coming in at. Best,

Moggy

I love how the robart tires are 1/3 squished and it's not finished yet, that's awesome. The build looks great, I too believe that a plane doesn't need to be exact scale, but to make it look right in your mind is more important than a scale 3-view.

Tfarmer, I beleive it's a Tru-turn. That's not what's making it nose heavy. The glass cowl for this thing is heavy. also those copper elbows are pretty heavy. I still haven't installed a muffler yet!

Moggy, I did not know that. I will see if I can swap them out without to much trouble.
Thanks,
Kelly

I bet those stacks do add a bit up front. You know a few spits did not have the scissors. Like my beloved en199 spit in malta.

Hey Moggy, I was looking at some pics this morning, and they are facing forward. (not that I doubted you) Just hadn't ever payed it any attention.

The good new is they swapped around with no problems at all.

Thanks for that one. That would have been sooo embarassing to show up at the field with my sissors pointed the wrong way

Thanks agian.

Here are some more.

I still have a few little "fit" issues to work out and a few more dings to fill.

Hopefully I will be glassing buy the weekend.
