Got some painting done. The challenge is 'aging' the new paint. (more pictures of that tomorrow) Right wing is fixed, here is the left. It will be done tomorrow night. Because it was a repair in the painted area, Brian didn't worry about patching the aluminum on the seams. It can easily be feathered in and new patch will not show.

I look forward to seeing this plane up close one day, might have to make it to a meet out east next year...

Just thinking out loud on this.. Have you thought about not trying to make the repairs perfect, field repairs were common and not all that pretty.. I guess that you would need documentation that the real plane had a repair in that spot for competition, never mind........

Zombie is likely done for now in competition. But I still want to do this repair to make it disappear. I like the challenge in that as well. We plan to fly her a lot, and make as many events as we can with her, but not in serious competition.
The Corsair will be our new competitor.

Well, the wings are all fixed. Just a little air brushing of the white after the gear is installed, and it will be impossible to tell it ever had an accident.
The gear is done as well and will be on the way back to us from D&L Monday. Ron finished it up on Sunday. What great service. We will have her ready for this coming Saturday for sure.
Really looking forward to getting her back in the air.

Got the gear back today and it looks great. The rebuilt struts look much better than the originals, and no more rivets in the scissors. Mitch at Down & Locked included the upgraded control box that now will handle up to 17V. We will now be able to use a 2c Lipo with no regulator.
- new right upper and lower strut
- new lower left strut
- rebuilt scissors on both
- new trunnion / housing assemblies
- new axles
- rebuilt electric mechanisms
- upgraded control box
Now to get them re-installed and adjusted before Saturday.

Gary,
I'm sure you said already, but what the cycle time on those,,
I just put Lados in the 630s in my small p-47,, it almost a full 15 seconds,, that seams a little too long to me. It looks cool in the shop, but too slow to enjoy while flying by.
p.s.
Going to try and stop in @ Alliance this weekend,, Cya

Brian has it all back in and working. Not enough time to get the lower main doors fitted up and finished, but the inner doors and the upper main doors are installed for Saturday.
It would be great to see you Saturday. We will fly Zombie and the Aeroworks electric P-51, and #1 CARF Corsair will be there for her first engine run (Moki 250 radial) and taxi trials. No wing folding though. Brian blew a hydraulic line and we can't get it fixed in time.
We would like to bring the big F4U to your 'JUMBO BUZZARD FLY IN', if that would be OK. We hope to have it ready to fly by then.

Hey guys
Well I guess you heard.
It was very mild although I had one artery 80% closed that now has a stint.
I'll give you an idea just how mild the the clues were.
Woke up Thursday tool my daughter to surf camp.
Came home and started hand sanding an order, prior to painting. This was about 10 am. Finished sanding the 10 blades and painted them. After fininging I started to feel a small pressure in my upper chest and that was all.
Four o'clock my wife called and I told her about the pressure.
Had a friend (doctor) come over where she checked my BP. We then went straight to the ER.
Everything else is great and should be home by Sunday.

Thanks guys for all the inspiration.
Dino and Kim get left.
I told them not to come up here, but so glad they came up to the hospital.
Guys I'm only 51 years old, so the lesson learned here is, if something just does not feel right, don't just blow it off.

Now back to Zombie
Now back to Zombie
She started up nice, the electric gear worked perfect (although it is again mistakenly programed as a P-51), took off and got cleaned up, made a high speed pass, set up for another that was going to become an emmelman, but just as I started my clime at the far end of the field, she abruptly quit with no warning. I still had plenty of speed and made a 180 back to the runway but she was still way too fast with no gear or flaps, so I held the wings level and proceeded over the end of the runway, over the tall grass run off, and into the corn. The wings were dead level as she settled into the corn. The cloud of dust kicked up was incredible and a collective gasp was heard from the crowd. My boy and some friends walked to the crash site and there she was, sitting on her belly facing straight, at the end of a 40-50 foot swatch of flattened down corn. I could kick myself for not getting a picture of that. They said it look like a full scale belly landing. Because the corn was only about 2 - 3 feet high, it looked even more fullscaleish (not sure if that is a word, but it should be ). The stocks were soft with no corn ears on them yet.
Plane was carried back and set back on the gear. Broken prop, a few more creases in the belly pan, covered in dirt and green stains, minor damage to the sheeting in front of the belly pan, a few very small dings in the leading edge (we like them and will leave that as is), and both wing tip light lenses were gone. My Son figured they would be on either side of the 'trench at the beginning, and he was right. He walked back and found them both!!.
We cleaned her up and took these pictures.
A gentleman was in attendance who took a shine to Zombie. Seems he was a P-47 pilot in WWII!!!!!. We took some pictures of him with the plane, and then we had him autograph it. You could tell he was reliving his experiences as he looked her over and talked with us. Very cool.
PS all these pictures were taken AFTER her trip to the "pea patch".
WHAT A TOUGH PLANE!!!!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN MIESTER.
