If your Dad trusted that plane to a G-62 or such to get it in the air, then I'm sure he'd trust us to put it back there. Besides , I've always said that no matter what we could do to it, it could be fixed. lol.........Doug

........I'm blowing dust off it as we speak. Let's see.............gear, a DA 85, some servos, a little TLC, and there ya go. Insta-Meister, courtesy of Dean Sr. # 11 back in business........a lot of work, but surely worth it. I'll have to throw back a couple and think about it. Subject to your approval, of course............Doug

RE: Meister 1/5 scale P-47
Just got back from one of the worst days I have had in construction. This is sooooo refreshing. What a cool thing to think about. Getting an old Meister back in the air.
We worked all week in blistering heat and humidity to get a second floor addition under roof. Below, a finished office (hard wood floor and all), laundry and bath, with crown. Again today, not a cloud in the sky and 95 or something. 30% chance of scattered showers, 30%. We had two sheets of plywood down when the clouds rolled in and the lightning started. 15 minutes later we had the back sheeted, the ice guard on and a couple rows of felt and a couple of us were starting the front sheeting. I called for the tarp just as the rain came. We scrambled to get it covered. I was on the front roof, two stories up, in a driving rain, holding the tarp down, unable to move for fear of loosing my footing, as they tried to get me the cap gun. I heard my son yelling for help in the back. He had ran around the corner in time to see our 12' tent 'flying' (I was jealous) and he had grabbed it by one leg and was holding it in mid air from going over a wrought iron fence and into the patio fountain and flowers.
Well, we got it covered long enough for the cloud burst to pass, threw the tarp back off and finished the roof, ice guard and felt, and got the step flashing all buttoned up about 5 minutes before the next downpour. As I closed up the house wrap on the first floor in the front, the rain was rolling off the new roof. It was like working under Niagara Falls.
So glad to be in dry cloths, kicking back, thinking about our big P-47s.
Go for it. Get Dad's plane back in the air. Much cheaper than building a new one.

Yeah too quick,
Since I broke my Pitts I don't have a plane ready either, I have a 33% not quite ready,, I hate to rush it in the air.
Jamie Hicks, Casey Rowe and a few other top 3D pilots are going to be there to put on a show,, should be good.
You could always come by and just hang out under the canopy,, that what I'll be doing, I might try to sell a few things too ;-)
August 27th is our Warbird Fly In
Hope to see you there

WOW, I thought we had another week. Time is really 'flying' this summer. Can't do it Saturday. NUTS. When is the war bird event?

Gee , gary, if I didn't know better I'd say you were in Florida. 95 deg, rain showers, big wind, tents blowing around......just a typical day at the office for us. My spray booth just set a record temp of 108 deg. I put a car outside all taped, cleaned and prepped, moving another to make space, and a storm rolled through and soaked it to the bone. We had to strip it and start again.Such is life. But then I fool with the planes for a while, go home to the grandkids, and everything is o k. Been flying Sun. mornings and having a good time..............Doug

Dang Gary, been there before and it's no fun... It sucks when you have no choice but to protect your custumers house and property, even if it means putting yourself and crew in danger like that. Bad timing for sure!
We are under the gun tp finish a middle school by 8-5, schools are always a ballbuster due to the short time frame.. Only good thing is I lost a much needed 15 pounds...
I went to bed early last night for a much needed good nights sleep, wrong! The wife woke me up at 12:30 telling me the popup canopy i left up from last weeks party is on it's side and trying to go on the roof..
I cant remember the last time if ever, that i had to go from a sound sleep to a wicked thunderstorm, not fun at all.. I got it down and in the garage, but got soaked to the bone.. I went out this morning to check out the damage around the property.. Got some branches down and 80% of my tomato plants bit the dust, bought made me sick, was having a bumper crop this year. I didn't even check the rest of the garden before the rain started coming down hard again.. Man what a bad way to start a relaxing weekend off, looks like i will have tp work after all..
Gary,
thanks again for the screw you sent, hope to repay the favor some time.. Glad you and your crew didn't get hurt, that could have been real bad working on the second floor and all.. I will give you a shout this eve, got a new number to give you. We changed Internet providers and we couldn't keep our old one...

10-4 on the grandkids. Little 1 year old Tristan has been keeping me company today. What a treat. He loves my shop already.

We have another fly in coming up next week end and I'll be getting ready for that. Mitch told me that the newly reprogrammed gear control box will go out Monday. (we also sent him the CARF Corsair Sierra gear to convert to electric) We will need to run the engine before Saturday, with the new ignition box and plug. I hope that will fix our problem, and it doesn't have to go back to Gerhard. That would cost us another week.

Some pictures. Here is the belly pan after the slide into the corn field. We will leave it as is. I love the way it looks.
As you can see, at some point it began to slide at an angle.
The Gorilla glue I poured into it saved it. The damage did not reach the framework.
Also, I'm sure that neither a painted finish over a glassed structure or a fiberglass fuselage would look as much like metal.

The fuselage. Brian found all this dirt in the fuselage. Seems she did some 'plowing' in the corn field.
Not much damage, all things considered. This is being repaired to original look.
As you can see, no damage to the aft. A small crack in the turbo shroud, and that is all.
