The prop range is the same for 150 and 180. youŽll probably get some RPMs more...

Guys, one question:
ItŽs my first moki and IŽve heard that "overheating" is an issue with this machine.
IŽm planning to baffle it but I do have some questions regarding installing an dummy engine.
do u feel it might be an issue??

thanks for helping me!

Why would you want to install a dummy engine?

The judges at Top Gun accept the Moki and don't downgrade you. No dummy needed or wanted. As for baffling, I usually do. However, on the Meister P-47 I do not. I make the cowl flaps operational so I can open them farther, and block off the bottom of the cowl. This gives me an even temp across the cylinders with no cheater hole in the bottom of the cowl. I'll be installing this in this new build on the next couple days and posting pictures. rightBeen running mine two years like this and those who have seen her fly will attest to the performance. Dino has flown her as well and gave her two thumbs up.

I saw Gary's Meister fly at Warbirds Over Delaware last summer. Just one word to describe it, Swweeeeetttt!! The Meister P-47/Moki 150 is the perfect power combo. Plenty of power. Now if I could just get started on my build. Got all the parts including a Moki 180 but no time to build right now.

Thanks for the compliment. I really enjoyed that event. I plan on being a regular. :-)

The all radial flight I had not seen before and it was a privilege to fly in it. Even the announcer said "I'll be quiet so we can just listen to these wonderful engines". Very cool.

Zombie is alive and well Jeff. I'm planning to return to Top Gun in 2015 with her. This latest build is for my friend Johnny Z, who also plans to be at Top Gun with this P-47. If ever I can get it to him. We plan to spot for each other, flying the same maneuvers.

Here is are some pictures of Zombie at this years full scale Cleveland Air Show. I consider it a privilege to be invited to fly there and my brother and I have a great time. Couldn't do it without Brian's crew chief support. Giant scale war birds need constant attention, especially with radials, just like there full scale counterparts.

The cowl with the flaps cut off. always leave them together until they are glued to the hinges. This keeps everything straight.

A shot of one of the cowl plates with the new cowl mounts laid out on it. These little mounts will be glued to the cowl in front of the plate, and will be all that is on the cowl itself, so you can get it over the radial.

Thanks RAM!
IŽm worried about the static evaluation about TG as Im going in Expert category and there is static evaluation. that makes me more confortable!!! = )

Mirce,
I know it will be a shame to hide the Moki behind the dummy !! dont blame me... LOL!

thanks!!!

I know first hand. I ran a CARF Corsair through static equipped with a Moki 250. They liked the fact it was a real radial.

You'll be fine. Just don't provide any close up pictures in your docs of the engine. Make sure you do document your detail work. They rely on your docs for comparison to the plane. If it isn't as perfect as you can make it, don't show any pictures of it and make sure your three views match the plane. You probably are fully aware of all this, but i'm just reliving my experience with the static judges right now.

Wing guns. All aluminum and made in two sections. The base gets glued in and the main barrel screws into it. Being removable makes for much easier transport.

At this point I glue the two flap rings together. The tapers facing each other. Meister provides locating pin holes laser cut that make it very easy to keep the two plates perfectly lined up. I use wooden dowels in these holes during the initial steps.

Once the flap plates are made and bolted to the cowl, I can tape the flaps in place.

Now I'm ready to begin installing hinges. I added another layer to the side that will be against the flap, allowing it to rest flat against the flap for good adhesion. The other side hangs over the back plate so the hinge point is not a problem. I cut the hinges around the top three mounting washers. The bottom two will go over top of the hinges. Glue the hinges to the flaps first. This is important to make it easy to keep the flaps and cowl flush. Very easy to move the flaps in and out as you glue the hinge to the wood plate.

Now I can remove the tape. They are nicely lined up with the cowl. Next I unbolt the cowl and cut the air holes in the plates.

Here are some pictures to show why the taper in the plates is necessary. They create a nice pocket for the leading edge of the flaps to retract into when opened.

Note that, to this point, the flaps have still not been cut apart. I'll add the guides for the cable, using the cable to keep them in line. Then I can finally cut the flaps apart, before adding the 1/64 webbing.
