RAM, nice work on the cowl... must re-do mine cause it´s a piece o sh($%)$&%eet! I´,ve tryed to install plastic CA hinges but it didnt work...

Still working on mine... I´m now on the finishing part, but there´s still much to do... I´m posting some pics later today.

Besides that, my Moki just died... cant fire it up even with a HD starter...

made the maiden flight and was perfect so It died just after... couldn´t start it since than...
after spending a huge amount of time on it, I´ve realized is that, the spark plugs are not receiving any signal from the ignition. the ignition is on, working, green lights on, but sparks are not "sparkling"...
tested with 3 different ignitions and the problem remains.

can anyone tell me if has gone thru anything like this??
cheers

Fernando

Fernando,
Is your ignition one of the new style ones. The blue box type? If so i had the same issue on my Moki 250 after 20 flights. They replaced it with a new one under warranty. My engine did start up again after that was replaced, but it never did run the same or sound the same as it did out of the box. It's been sent back to Airworld who do the assembling of these engines and they have had it for over three months now. From what i'm hearing they are replacing the whole ignition system thru out the engine to hopefully get it back into like new condition.

hey Greg!
My moki used the old black rounded ignition and then I changed to the new one, Blue box type... engine was running great at the ground.
Made the Maiden flight, one single flight, than it stopped... when I tried to make the second flight in the same day, It quit.

after that, replaced with another blue box ignition, also tried with the old black ignition and couldnt make it start. with the 3 igntions, it doesnt work. Sparks do not sparkle
what I realize is that sometimes the 2 greens lights are constantly on, sometimes one of them is constantly off. It seems like is lost the connection with the sensor...

thanks!!

Here is the final look after the servos are installed. I use Dubro large flat hinges.

What battery are you using? I use a 2 cell Lipo (7.4V) and have not had any issues with the 'blue box' ignition. I have heard of wires breaking in the 'distributor' in the back of the engine, but I would call Gotz and see what he thinks before disassembling anything.

How we got there. I adjusted the lengths of the stand-offs for the thrust angle. Set the engine in the cowl in the proper location. Then market the firewall and drilled it for the 10-32 bolts into the back of the stand-offs. Mounted the stand-offs and then the engine to them. They are drilled and taped for 10-32 bolts at both ends so you don't have to fiddle with those long bolts. These are the prototype for this plane and engine. Dino will have them available on his site soon.

Somewhere I have a picture of the distributor on the back of the engine. Can't find it. There are a lot of wires and solder connections. Looks fragile when you see it. Not saying that is your problem, but it is a potential issue.

I´m using a 3S 11,1V with an adjustable regulator to 8V out, but also tried with life 6.6 and a 2S 7.4V... nothing happened.

I´ve disassembled the back part but it seems ok! no broken wires...
I´m also against disassembling parts by chance I´ve already contacted Gotz to any recommendation!! I think it might be the pick up sensor...

by the way, congrats for the clean construction! great!

Thanks!!!

Looking very good. I like the different size rivets, just as they were. Nice detail.

Getting the exhaust all hooked up. Fitting everything so no clamps yet. Now for the body work around the waste gates. Then I will install the oil cooler regulator and the air deflector behind it. Aerofoil will simulate the stainless steel panels around it.

Looks absolutely Fantastic! Could you do a quick (or detailed if you want ) explanation of your techniques/tools for how you painted, paneled, riveted and weathered?

Here is series of pictures as I apply Meister Aerofoil to simulate the stainless steel panels around the waste gate and oil cooler shudder.

First a sand the area with 400 and clean. Then I mast off the panel lines. Next comes the Aerofoil starting in the middle with my fingers.

Now I start burnishing (rubbing) the foil down with this tool. don't worry about small wrinkles. They can usually be rubbed out with the barrel of your Exacto knife, or a smooth piece of maple dowel.

Now cut along your masking tape with a fresh #11 blade dipped in paint thinner for lube.

Now the finish. For simulated aluminum I use 400 wet dry. For this area, it will be 600 because I want to simulate stainless steel (a brighter finish). Don't worry about the orange peel looking finish. This is the glue pattern on the back and normal. It will all but disappear in the next step.

Now rub the area down with green Scotch Bright. This evens it all out. Just keep going over it till the orange peel is gone.

Now for the dzuts, panel line, and rivet detail. Panel lines.....a mechanical pencil riding along the masked off lines. Dzuts......in this case, a 1/8" piece of brass tube sharpened on the inside, pressed into the foil, and then a small strail blade screw driver pressed in the middle to make the slot. The smaller rivets.......a 1/16" brass tube done the same way.

We do entire aircraft this same way. Awesome results vs simulating aluminum with paint. Never looks as good IMO. can you pick out the natural aluminum finish in this line up?

Hi Gary,
thank for the series of your picture with Aerofoil. How do you apply this foil on the airplane´s surface, with some special glue? Or it is some normal foil as Monocote covering films?
I try to find some this foil but without any success.
