Is anyone using the new APS 380 RX fuel pump on the Moki 250's? I just replaced my 380HV pump with the newer RX version. Looks like you can set up on a throttle curve. just curious if anyone if setting the pump at a fixed % fuel rate or using a curve mixed with throttle.. if so, what type of settings are you using?

I have just setup this pump on my moki 250 and don't use a curve. As suggested by a friend its best to use this pump at 100%. This way the needles settings are constant and don't vary with varying pump pressure. I use the pump through a powerbox spark switch at 5v. The plane hasn't flown yet, but the engine starts and runs beautifully each time.

Thanks for the input Ragz... I had the pump set low and will probably not use a power curve as suggested. I'm planning to fly my Bearcat tomorrow to test it out. Running a Moki 300 and will let you know. Also, please share when you do fly your plane. I'd be interested to hear about it.

Sure thing. Share your observations too, will help in my test flight scheduled in a couple of weeks. Are you going to use the pump at a "low/er" setting ?

We have almost the same setup. I use the same Powerbox spark switch as well. I flew the plane once with a low setting at around 30%. I plan to test tomorrow with a little higher setting of around 50% and will tune to the rich side of peak RPM. The first flight was really short since i had an aileron flutter issue... long story.. but the lower setting on the pump seemed fine, but not a real good test.. I'll let you know.

Joe,
Around Jan, 2009, I was talking to Mike of RCS about an engine for my F4U but he sold the moki franchise to TBM. Around March of that year, I got my first Moki 250 from Gene at TBM. A semi amusing story: I remember talking to Gene and he said they are back ordered and wouldn't be in for 6 weeks and he would call me to see if I still wanted it. I told him, no need to call, here's my MC number, just bill me and send it. There was only one engine that was going into the corsair! It came in about 4 weeks.

About three weeks ago I took my newer Moki 215 to the field and had great trouble starting the engine. It would start then lean out and die at low warmup rpms. It dawned on me that I might have a sticking valve which will allow the crankcase to suck in air through the exhaust. Sure enough I had three gooped up exhaust valves. You can tell by manually with your fingers press a valve and it will be harder to depress and it will return to closed slowly. I took the engine home and used brake cleaner to free up the valves. Spray into the valve stem...wait for the cleaner to dissolve the carbon/oil crud and spray again. I did more runs at home and the valves started to stick again. I have been using Amsoil interceptor oil on my older Moki with no problems. I have some Redline two stroke oil which DA uses so I mixed up a 44 to 1 batch with Phillips 66 premium. Since then I have flown at the field three times. Last Wednesday was a 3 mile/hour wind day and I flew 9 times. The valves are as free as a bird. This is hardly a scientific controlled test. Redline does leave a bit more residue on the plane than the Amsoil suggesting better lubrication. Maybe the newer engine has a tighter fit of the stems to the guides....who knows? Anyway I am pleased with the results. -Tom

I have been using Red Line for some time now, I had a DLE 60 sieze up about a year ago, It was under warranty so I returned it for repair, the service tech asked me what oil I was using and I told him Amsoil, he stated that the majority of the engines returned because of seizure problems were using Amsoil, he said he recommended Red Line, since I have been using it I have had to more overheating issues.

Joe I know some people swear by Amsoil, but I am sold on Red Line

Is there relationship between Ser # and build date? I have a couple of friends with S250's that are much newer, but have lower serial #'s than my engine (2508XX, build/test date 11/2011). Anyone out there who's sorted this?

Cheers

G-DAY You certainly are pulling all stops to sought out the problems with this grate MOKI WELL Not that I have seen my problem mentioned But I had a miss on 1and 4 , Took it to our Aussie agent for repairs Tracked it down to some D@#$%HEAD WHO had installed the turbulator and had inadvertently screwed the mounting bolts for the carby and turbulator into the @#$%$ coils and had a short on these two cylinders All repaired and ready to go SO JUST A NOTE ON INSTALLING TURBULATOR

And yet the directions specifically state; screw the threaded rods in 6mm and stop. This is 7 to 8 turns. -Tom

Dento, My comment was not at you! You are the poor guy that had to deal with someone else's mistake. (or are you the guy you were referring to?) The directions are in German. Here in the states we have them in English because I sent them to a German friend who is a technical writer for translation. Elsewhere in this thread way back I posted the directions so you may want to look them over. I am glad the problem is solved for you. Well anyway, wishing you many good flights with your engine. -Tom
