I have contacted Gotz today. He is well aware of the starter and has seen it used heavily during a glider tow event. Says it works very well. He is looking into prices and the design. -Tom

Outside the video, did Gotz have any other input on the starter? curious if it's just designed for the 250? i have a 300 and this would be a nice add on!

I do not know about the 300. Positive on the 215/250 engines. I did mention he has seen it in action with many starts. Worked smoothy and flawlessly. -Tom

Ok guys... I need some help.

My Moki 150 was running perfectly for I don´t know how many hours. At a meeting last month, I meet a guy who is very experienced with Mokis, and we adjusted all the valves/rods. Most were within limits, but 2-3 were way off.

Went flying for the first time since the adjustment today, and suddenly the idle was wrong. Earlier I was constantly getting 850-900rpm with no issues, but today the idle was between 1700-2200rpm, differing everytime I went from full to idle. When throttling up (slow and easy) the engine would also sometimes quit, not slowly but abrubt.

So...do I need to do some H/L needles adjustment due the valve/rod adjustment, or is it something else?

I'd check for any stuck exhaust valves first..

Greg Wright is likely right. Look at my discussion on troubles I had with a sticking valve a page or two ago. Switching to redline oil solved the problem. -Tom

Spoke to Dr G. He is in the process of updating his website with the starter...........possibly tomorrow! Now that doesn't mean he'll have them in stock anytime soon. We'll have to wait and see. When asked if there would be a unit with a smaller gear train for planes like a Wildcat, Corsair, etc...... he said that what is in the video is what is soon to be available.

I'm excited to see it finally out there but we'll have to see what comes of it. Sounds likely that we'll all know more very soon. Make sure you're sitting down when you finally see it listed. I'm guessing they won't be inexpensive.

Dento, I used tygon tubing. Smaller size on the nipples to the engine and return and the next size up from the tank to the pump nipple. Yep wire tied on all. -Tom

Bent Push Rod on Moki 300. I just got back from flying and was going through a post flight check when I noticed one of my push rods was bent. I noticed when whipping down the engine and when you spin the rods you can clearly see it's not straight. Actually two rods, one just not as bad. These are the stock rods that came with it. I checked valve gaps before each flight, but not sure what would have caused it, unless I hit the motor on something. What would usually cause a bent rod? Also, I had a bought a set of the carbon fiber rods from Heilmann-Sternmotoren.de but hadn't installed them yet... I guess I'll have to now. if anyone has used these carbon rods, I'd appreciate your thoughts...

RB. when the cam is not depressing the valve with the bent pushrod, can you with your finger easily depress the valve? I would have answered sooner but I was at Airventure. -Tom

The starters for Moki 250's are available. They are only available with a 250 attached! That might mean there are modifications to the timing chest etc. -Tom

Hi Tom, Hope you had a good time at Airadventure. Haven't been there for awhile.. But yes, I can press the valve with my finger. All valves seem to require the same amount of pressure to depress. Where you thinking a possible stuck valve?.. rob

Yes Rob. If a cold engine has easy to depress valves they are not sticking. Hmmm Yes Airventure has changed from my first visit in 1983. I was eyeballing the 7 cylinder Rotec radial. $ 19,000.00 with fuel injection and the collector ring for the show special. Not bad actually! Kitfox has a cowl and adaptor for it.......
