What If Jerry Designed A...
How about a plane that was originally designed to be used for war efforts but because of a big headed designer never made it past a 2 mile takeoff run. That's right, let's hear it for the HK-1 "Spruce Goose". I know, no one will agree, but if a designer is asking for input, I've got to throw that in there.

So Far....
So far we've seen these suggestions:
Beaufighter:
Lockheed (Hudson, Ventura, Harpoon):
Me-410
Ki-46
He-219
Douglas A-20 Havoc
We're on a roll... :^) What else would you like Jerry to design?

Theres a new 80" plan of the Beaufighter coming to Radio Control Scale International in the near future. Saw it fly today, and drop bombs, outstanding..... AND it was electric....

Hmmm, of the 3 that were given, I would go with the Ventura. But...how about something really unique like my personal favorite Russian twin the Ilyushin Il-4 or Petlyakov Pe-2 or 8, or a Tupolev SB-2. I haven't seen any of these Russian twins done before...maybe they have but not to my knowledge???
Happy flying,

I'll vote for the ME 410 it's a awesome looking plane. Look out for tip-stll-spins though. To bad the nacelles are so small.
If that doesn't work how about a DHC-6 Twin Otter. Oh sorry I meant a CC-138 or for you Americans a UV-18. I know of only two on the drawing board but neither will be ready until next year.

Another vote for the HE-111 or ME 410.
I think the HE-111 would find a lot of acceptance, since it is well known but still not kitted a lot.
There would be also tons of info on that bird as well as different paint schemes.

I guess I can snitch to some degree as to why I initiated this with the Beaufighter. Jerry has been working on a Heinkel 219 which has the same cowl as the Beafighter with the exception of an oil cooler on top on the Beaufighter.
The Ki-61 is an excellent choice as it has adequate dihedrial and that magical canopy shape that shouts leading edge technology. Part of deciding is weighing the builder and how easily the what ever can be constructed by modelers with minimum requirements for tools, especially power tools beyond a scroll saw.
The Lockheed Ventura/Harpoon/Hudson/Loadstar is buildable as one of four as a result of minor belly, nose & backbone changes. It presents the best of all worlds for a designer...and value for the builder.
The He-111 would be nice, but there's already a 1/10th out there with fiber glass and plastics. I agree a 1/6th would be nice but this brings us back to being reasonable and practical with engine size, transportability and overall costs...which these days are in a spiral...upward.
Remember from a designer's stand point its important to "sell plans" :^)
Are we ready for a vote so the 1000th viewer can get us focused on what's next or do you want to let it roll for a while longer?

Ed, Care to share the specs on the 219? I for one would be very interested. Heck, Ill even build the prototype! Tell Jerry to make sure its big enough to take 2 gas engines, preferably in the 40cc range.
