Giant (23cc) Black Horse Models planes ?
Anyone seen the new Black horse models 23-26cc big birds they're just now releasing?
Giant Chipmunk -British military version
Ginat T-28 Trojan (write up in recent modeling magazine)
Giant T-6 Texan
I have an interest in the Texan, but the price tag seems rather high (over $500.0) seeing as how one could get a nitromodels T-6 texan or FlyboyHobbies giant Chipmunk for under $300.
I'm not trying to sway anyone's decision on teh sale of one of these as BHM does make great ARF's for the $$, it's just that a new Top Flite Giant P-47 is only $569.00
I have several BHM .60 size planes and they're great to bash into more scale looking crates, but I'd really like to see more info on these bigger birds before I dropped that kind of $$$
The nice thing is that the planes (not the chipmunk) do come with air retracts- [but I know nothing of the quality of BHM air retracts].
I think thier new texan (Witha lil firewall work) could easily accept a 50cc engine just fine) [8D] .
Anyone seen these planes in person ?

I would like to see a picture of the retracts. Also the site stated the aileron servos are included.
The AT-6 has a very good airfoil and can be (with the right motor) crisp fast...82 inches cry for an 50cc

I don't see anything stated about aileron servos included. However, under the 'Included' column it does state 'dual elevator servos' but by that I believe they are just telling you that the construction type of the elevators uses 2 servos as opposed to 1 which is something a lot of guys want. I don't believe that it means the servos are included. It would be nice if I were wrong tho.... =)

We must be looking at 2 different links or something. Here's the link to Hobby People that I looked up. Obviously there are multiple descriptions floating around I guess. Interesting.

By the way G-Pete, I've been following your thread on the P-38 build and your work is amazing. It looks like a real work of art.

RE: Giant (23cc) Black Horse Models planes ?
Hi guys, can anyone tell me with the Black Horse 120 Harvard, do the wings break into two for transport or during construction are they glued together to form a one piece wing?
Many thanks

What are the retracts like NoFlaps? Seen a video on Utube and they seem a bit flimsy and inconsistent.
Thanks

RE: Giant (23cc) Black Horse Models planes ?
I'm in the process of building this model and I paid $400.00 USD. It comes with flaps but they are not split configuration. The included retracts are of poor quality. They have lateral and side to side slop. I shimed the frame to eliminate the lateral play but am unable to take the slop out when the retracts are extended. I would purchase an aftermarket set from Robart. The quality of workmanship is excellent and all parts fit exactly. The film covering requires rework using a heat gun and iron. The cockpit interior is totally unscale and the pilot figures make you grin. Ninety percent of the supplied hardware is useable but don't use the machine screws to attach the engine and engine mount to the firewall. The cowl is fiberglass but a little on the thin side. Overall I would rate this model on a scale of 1 to ten an 8.5. This is a standoff semiscale model and does not require a 50cc engine. I choice a Saito 180 FS just for the weight and sound. If your going gas a 26cc or 30cc would be more than adequate.

Adequate would be the best way to describe them. It's too bad they are not an optional part. They'lle do the trick for what the plane is though. I'd change out the stock/ main wheels in order to get a better (stand off scale) look.
Use extreme caution and care when assembling the 3 piece wing, in fact though designed to be taken apart, I'd recommend that the whole thing be epoxied together so it doesn't come apart, there are only a few screws taped into/ holding the panels together via the aluminum spar tube. That's just my 2 cents, but sinces you guys use pence, you may choose differently.

I conqure with making the wing on complete structure, that's what I did. I should have said the retracts were junk and they will be replaced prior to its test flight. Where did you balance the plane? The instructions are fague.

I've got another post somewhere here on RCU, that shows the mods I've made to this plane. I rebuilt the wings and it nor has split flaps. I also ave a central flap, that at the time is non finctioning, but utld be set to actuate.

RE: Giant (23cc) Black Horse Models planes ?
I stand corrected from my prievious post. The parts do not all fit correctly. When I mounted the wing to the fuselage I had several minor gaps on both the left and right side wing saddle. These gaps are fixable but should not have occured for the price I paid. I'm finding it impossible to locate retracts to fit this plane. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

RE: Giant (23cc) Black Horse Models planes ?
Test flew the plane and all went well. Trim settings based on 3/4 throttle. Plane was nose heavy and took six clicks of up. Slight roll to the right and took two clicks left trim. Rudder was neutral. Landed with no flaps and the plane refused to slow down. This machine is a floater at 13.4 lbs wet and I would advise the use of flaps for landing. I planned to test flaps on the second flight but I over shoot the runway and managed to tear out the right landing gear. The east end of the runway is unimproved waste land filled with rocks, ruts and other destroyer of model planes.
The 180 FS engine plays havoc on the airframe and several gam nuts backed out and two screws holding the cowl in place loosened. The tailwheel assembly is junk and I replaced it with a DuBro aftermarket assembly. I increased the rudder throw by 1/8 inch to give more steering ability. Due to the placement of the landing gear and CG location the plane will nose over if you advance the throttle to quickly. Due to this I took off at half throttle. Throttle management is extremly important when taking off. This airplane wants you to fly it and not the other way around.
