Can anyone who has one of these Swordfish tell me what size Saito Radial might fit the cowl (and, of course, power the plane)?

it references a 180 size 4 stroke. I am going with a gasser myself, G38/us41.

Ram-bro,good choise..I flew min on Saturday and had a small issue with the C.G..
Need another 2 Lbs of led up front..[sm=red_smile.gif] ,it flew but it was interesting..2 click up on the trim it went vertical, two click down it went down like a Falcon..
My saito 182 has more than enough power thoug,I was surprised but a heavy engine makes it eaysier to balance it..
With a 42 cc petrol it´s going to fly on idle..

Tomas has the first batch of Cockpit kits already. Just e-mail him about the kits....I am finishing up the Storch this week. I plan on fixing the torpedo fins and make a resin propeller for it to....

Virgin flight in Sweden this weekend. Not the very best, you shouldn´t film the first flights until every thing is setup in radio with programming and trims. Still need 1kg of weight in front to be correct on CG as you can see in movie it´s quite tail heavy.

Engine is Saito 182 twin with 18x8 prop, need to be changed to 17x8 or 17x6 to be perfect.

Please take to notice this flight was first trim flight in heavy side wind conditions...

I´m sure Richard who owns it will answer your questions

Not too far off,i was gambling a bit that it would be allright were I had it.. NOOOOO!!!
So I´ll get back to you when I started my trial and error ..
As i said earlier,I didn´t like how the elevator and rudder servos was placed so this is my fault, not ESM..
However, this is going to be a gentle bird to fly,no question about that..
My guess is that it would fly with a 120 FS without problem..
Need som lead right now, going to shape it to fit inside the cowling and glue it there with silicon..my gues is around 2 lbs..

what we are trying to ask is...
Did you have your CG at the place called for on the plans/manual?? or did you fly it with your CG further back?

This is the airplane that hit the rudder on the Bismark isn't it? I saw the movie "Sink the Bismark" today. Great movie.

for all you fish lovers, i watched a documentary on the pilot who hit the rudder of the bismark, he told of the observer, while flying into a wall of flack, leaning well over the side of the plane, watching for a suitable trough to drop the torpedo, held the pilot off till thethat moment, then dropped, cleared the ships rigging by inches-guts, or what? when the eugen, and the scharnhorst did the dramatic channel breakout into the atlantic, these planes could only be shot at by 109s, with the 109 dropping its gear, and flaps, to get slow enough, even then, the fish pilots just stood the fish on a wnig tip, and turned away, she was actually very manouverable, good job, eh? what with the ships firing the main armament, to knock them down with water geysers, and 109s all over them, these guys had GUTS!

You might try the Idea suggested by "blubberse" and use FISHING LINE [ I think he said 45lb. test. That is what I am going to do with mine. It's thinner, very strong and more scale than the wires they sent with the plane. I'm Still leaning towards a DLE 50cc rear carb style motor. Anyone have any thoughts on my choice? I really wish I could put a Saito or ASP Radial on her but for now that's just a dream [ bought to many Plane's from VQ this year ] LOL! Hey Guys I always use Coated Leader Wire. You can get it at most fishing stores. Coated help keep no metal to metal connections. I usually use 20 lbs stuff...

Hello All,
You may be interested in a different method of making flying wires. This results in good looks but is totally non-functional-does not give any strength to the structure. It is not my idea-it was first used by Nick Ziroli and an article was published many years ago in M.A.N. This method uses a plastic strapping material available at Michaels craft store. The specific material is called "Rexlace" and is available in a chrome finish. It is about 3/32" wide and has a "streamlined" c4ross section. It does stretch a bit but does not go slack after use. Use silver quick links for the ends and Zap the lacing in the quicklink threads. The strapping ends can be tapered and then "screwed" into the quicklink. I have used this method and find it very good.
Photos are on my website-http://www.rc-airplanes-simplified.com/model-airplane-plans.html
If any one has any questions just let me know.

Ty,
Thanks for the cockpit looks great and your videos are second to none. Is it possible to see what you did to restructure the servo structure under the cockpit? Some pics or video would be great.

I have not had a chance to put the Swordfish together yet. I just finished the last of the new kits I had to do. I got the swordfish back out yesterday and started to work on it. I plan to show my progress and iut will include the servo tray changes...
