Full - Tilt Cockpit Kit for 1/5th T.F Giant P-51 Mustang
As a suggestion, your next project might be something in a German flavor for the 1/5 1/5.5 crowd.
Hey Guys,
I couldn’t find a pilot I liked for my TopFlite Mustang either, so I made my own. The figure is very accurate with the Polaroid Flight Goggles, A-11 flight helmet, etc. He is full-body down to his knees, (feet are rarely seen in fighters). It is a likeness of a good friend of mine who flew fighters in WWII (see black & white photo below of him in 1944). He lent me a lot of reference, so I had to make it good!
I am currently making the molds and should be able to start casting copies in the next week or so.
What do you think?

Now to get a few painted to see how realistic they can look!
Thanks guys for all the encouragement!
I completed painting the figure today and couldn't wait for it to dry to see how it looked in the cockpit of my Giant Scale TopFlite P-47 and P-51. Supposedly these are two different scales, but as you can see, the pilot figure looks great in both of them. After working with the heavy clay for 2 months, the hollow-cast figures feel really light. I weighed them and they average only 3 ounces! Super light.
A special feature to the figure is that Bob Sweeney not only let me use his image, but also lent me his signature which was embedded in the clay. So every figure will sport Bob's signature! Next step is to update the website, cast a bunch of them and they will be available for sale.
