So long as you are price competitive with Aces of Iron figures you should do well. Yours is excellent! And I'll be on the list too.

As a suggestion, your next project might be something in a German flavor for the 1/5 1/5.5 crowd.

Just finished pouring the last half of the mold for the pilot figure's body. Will let you know how the casting process goes. If everything goes well, I will be posting an ad. Thanks for the feedback guys!

ORIGINAL: Fly4Real

Hey Guys,
I couldn’t find a pilot I liked for my TopFlite Mustang either, so I made my own. The figure is very accurate with the Polaroid Flight Goggles, A-11 flight helmet, etc. He is full-body down to his knees, (feet are rarely seen in fighters). It is a likeness of a good friend of mine who flew fighters in WWII (see black & white photo below of him in 1944). He lent me a lot of reference, so I had to make it good!
I am currently making the molds and should be able to start casting copies in the next week or so.
What do you think?
Out-freekin'-standing! I'm interested in getting two once you have them available. I prefer an unpainted option because it keeps the price down, but I may be in the minority. At 1/5 scale unpainted, I'm thinking somewhere in the $45 - $50 range.

Jay

Default RE: Full - Tilt Cockpit Kit for 1/5th T.F Giant P-51 Mustang

After a rough bout of the flu, ugh, I anxiously hollow-cast the first pilot figure - it is difficult to determine how well a mold is going to perform - and I am pleased to say it was a success!! These are quick pics of the unpainted, very first cast sitting in my TopFlite Giant Scale P-47. In comparison to the previous 1/6th scale figure, I was initially concerned this one may be too small, but the size really looks perfect. The scale looks just as good in the TopFlite Giant Scale P-51. I’ll get better shots if we get some sunlight in the next few days here in Kansas!

Now to get a few painted to see how realistic they can look!
Thanks guys for all the encouragement!

That is as nice a pilot figure as I have seen. Now, if only wel could get one of this quality in the off size (between 1/6 and 1/7) of the ESM P-51......

Hey Guys,

I completed painting the figure today and couldn't wait for it to dry to see how it looked in the cockpit of my Giant Scale TopFlite P-47 and P-51. Supposedly these are two different scales, but as you can see, the pilot figure looks great in both of them. After working with the heavy clay for 2 months, the hollow-cast figures feel really light. I weighed them and they average only 3 ounces! Super light.

A special feature to the figure is that Bob Sweeney not only let me use his image, but also lent me his signature which was embedded in the clay. So every figure will sport Bob's signature! Next step is to update the website, cast a bunch of them and they will be available for sale.

Anyone seen a cockpit kit that would fit into the Aeroworks P-51 ARF without too much modification? I'd like to replace the 'minimal' scale cockpit that comes installed in this ARF. My pilot needs a better home!
