Okay guys,
So after running out of 2MM masking tape that I'm using for the panel lines I decided to start working on the wing tip lenses.
I can't make them as small as scale would be but I think they will look good from 50 feet away
Here is the start of the process, cut out from a balsa block, need to round the edges and then will use a heat gun on the clear plastic to shape the lenses
BTW, we are getting 2 days of rain ***!!!!!

Well Alright, Alright, Alright. Good progress on the lens. Will the rain put out any significant fires out west along with feeding your grass? Chic

Okay, finally got the wing bottom done, here is a shot with Chads' screw heads, started working on the top of the wing yesterday afternoon.
Next is drilling the wing tips for the lights and forming the lenses.
Boyd, I will post pix as soon as I get someone to hold the heat gun for me

Larry,

After putting on the rivets did you spray another coat of primer?

I've never worked with Chad's rivets and did not want to add to much paint so as to hide the rivets.

Boyd/Larry: No - After placement of Chad's rivets and screwheads on the wings/fuse/etc., I just painted over them without any additional primer. Larry, after a lesson or two, Shirley held the heat gun for my lenses. She did a good job.

Boyd,
after glue dotting the rivets and taping for the panel lines I did spray a light coat of primer.
thinking it won't add more than an ounce or 2.
Chic, Shirley is a good egg, if I ask Fran to do it my hands will melt LOL but I'll see if she works otherwise I trade her in for 2 31 year olds 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Chic,
Did you use any kind of release agent on your mold.
Also what did you use for your mold.

Boyd,
If you're talking about the lenses there is no reason for a release agent. For some reason the plastic doesn't stick to the balsa
If I can get the wife to help today I will shoot a short video and email it to you

Boyd, Larry is right. No release agent is needed, the plastic does not stick to the balsa block that I carved/sanded to the shape of the lenses. I added/glued the 8 " dowel to the balsa block and then would bolt the dowel into a vice. I held the cut up plastic sheet (plastic attached/covering an item/anything purchased in a store) while Shirley held the heat gun pointed at the balsa block while I pushed the plastic sheet down and around the balsa shaped mold.. Great pix Chic, that's exactly how we did ours on the avenger, only we used the cutout pieces from the wing tip

Chic,
this should be interesting, tkaing my kid to the airport at noon. Mail usually shows up between 1 and 2, if they ring the bell and she gets it I can see myself being beat with a rolling pin when I get back LMAO

Smiling and Happy. Tuesday will be a different story. Look up and down the block for the brown truck. Cut it off early and run the box to the side of the house. Then wait for Fran to go shopping. Smile. It worked for me one time. Ha, Ha, Ha. Special Friends We "ARE". Chic

Chic,
Great idea except UPS DOES ring the bell when they drop something off and Frans on vacation
Raining here today, good day to finish affixing Chads screw heads and trying to get the wife to help me make the wing tip lenses

You are a SPECIAL friend, a shame we don't live closer to one another

Okay guys,
Latest update.
Getting ready to do panel line, rivets and screw heads on cowling. Here are a couple of pix of the windscreen, almost fits 100%.
Will have to add some micro balloons to the fiberglass front piece of the fuse to get it to sit perfect. NEVER easy I tell ya!!!!
