Default 100" p51 need help

I picked up an absolutley unbelievable deal but need help. I think this is a bud nosen p51 (not sure) - cant find any other manufacturers around that size.

It measures 102" wing and 96" fuze

It has a quadra 52 with a 20x8 prop

Weighs roughly 26lbs

What i need to know (as i'm not overly familiar with warbirds) is that thight engine combo for the plane. Plus if its a bud nosen i need to find a way to repair the nose.

This plane was just sitting in a guys garage - he was never into rc and had recived them from an uncle - the price was in the double digits not hundres or thousands - pretty much ready to fly. Any help on this would be great as i would love to get this back in the air.

Thanks

It does indeed sound like the Bud Nosen.

So what exactly do you need again? Do you have pictures so we can see what's broken (or not).
I for myself is building one right now with a ZDZ Super 80. Fit's well.

This engine is a little small for a large mustang. I will fly, probably a little slow and no extra power, but fly it and see what happens. Just let it get up to speed on take off and don't jerk it off the ground. Mustang and most warbirds don't like that. Good luck.

i will try to post the pics - does anyone have what the specs should be.

I found it hard to believe that there were standard 40 oz servos throughout this plane.

I built a Nosen P-51 in 1991 and flew it for 7 years with a A&M Sach/Brison 4.2 engine installed and propped with a 22x12 prop. Considering the weight of your plane (26lbs) and the powerplant you are using, your plane should performance quite well. My plane weighed 42lbs, had standard servos (49 oz) on rudder and ailerons, and Giant scale Futaba servos on the elevator. This plane had very gentle flying qualities unlike some of the other Mustang kits I had previously built (3 Topflights and 2 Semcos). It was not fast, but did present well in the air and landed slowly. Even with the powerplant used, take off rolls were very short, approximately 125' at full throttle. IMO, the roll rate was quite slow with full aileron deflection (3/4"). I had the elevator set up for 1/2" to 3/4" movement both up and down, and the rudder movement was 1" left and right.
If you want performance from the plane, a 5.8(95 cc) powerplant would be the way to go.

Main landing gear mounting plates is a weak area of this plane. You may want to check the area and reinforce it as necessary. One of the biggest headaches I had with this plane was having a gear rip out on a soft landing. Finally reinforced the gear mounting plates and the surrounding ribs with CF which cured the problem.

Sorry can't provide more info, but just sold the plane in Sept 09. Good luck with yours.[8D]

I thought the same thing. Maybe no retracts and other detail? Even so, pretty light.

The original Nosen P51 was flown with a .60 size glow with a reduction drive and fixed wire gear.
26 lbs is probably accurate for that

Right - there are no retracts installed and it has a quadra 52 on it. Fuse 20.5 lbs - wing 5.8 lbs

26lbs is RIGHT !! and all we had were 40 oz. servos !! Geared 60s & 90s then Q-35s with or without byron drives !! Highlift airfoil for SLOW takeoffs & landings !! Thay just flew thats all !! BUT you have got to remember this was about 1975 to 1980 !!

Back then, these giants were out of my league as much as turbines are now. Maybe I really have something to look forward to in about 2045. Let's see, I'll be about 91. Hope I can still fly a jet then.
